why winter wellness matters

As the evenings grow darker and temperatures drop, it can be easy to head indoors and press pause on the fitness journey! But winter doesn’t have to mean winding down. Thanks to Triathlon Ireland’s Winter Wellness Grants delivered as part of Sport Ireland Women in Sport funding women and girls across the country can keep moving, stay connected and feel good this winter.

Movement isn’t just about physical fitness – it’s about mental wellbeing too. Regular activity in the winter months can:

  • Boost energy levels, improving physical and mental health
  • Build resilience and strength to make Spring training easier
  • Create social connections, a vital part of staying motivated and well.

Triathlon Ireland will be offering club grants to support and encourage new and existing members. Following the success of HER Outdoors week we want to build on this and continue to encourage women and girls to stay fit and active mentally and physically.

What the Grants can support

From simple to structured wellness initiatives the grants can cover a wide range of  needs including;

  • Wellbeing and active programmes: Yoga, Pilates, Reformer Pilates, Swim-Fit, run groups, strength and conditioning or social spin bike training.
  • Health and nutrition workshops: Learning how to fuel your body through winter training
  • Facility hire – track hire, pool sessions or community halls for group fitness and wellness meet ups.

How to get involved

We are encouraging Women’s Officers in each club to think about what would help your members stay active this winter. It’s also a great opportunity to introduce triathlon to a wider group – encourage members to bring along mums, sisters, nieces, friends, cousins and grandmas!

Could reflective gear make evening run sessions safer? Would a nutrition talk motivate your group? Is there interest in hiring a track or pool to create a welcoming space for beginners?
