WattFest Round 3 Results

SUKI’S PLAYGROUND

Over 200 riders tackled a new course for Triathlon Ireland Zwift racing – Suki’s Playground. Two well placed climbs on the 19km route serve to break up the pack and give riders the chance to go for a well timed breakaway.

Last night’s riders gave it their all to earn their points, as well as boost their club’s standings in the overall league rankings.

With only three rounds done and six to go there’s still plenty of time to get involved, indeed those that have completed just a couple of races are making a big impact already! Read the breakdown of last night’s results, and find out how you can sign up, below…

RESULTS

With three rounds completed, patterns are beginning to emerge from the league tables – but don’t forget that WattFest is a best six from nine rounds so it’s still completely all to ride for.

WattFest is open to everyone but our race reports focus solely on the Triathlon Ireland members or riders who are attached to Triathlon Ireland clubs within the ZwiftPower rankings.

If you are a member and we’ve missed you in our round up of the top positions, just drop us a line and we’ll be happy to include you in future.

The results of the race and league individual and club categories can both be found on ZwiftPower – if you don’t see yourself listed, scroll down to the bottom of this page where we have some tips that might answer your query.

CAT A RESULTS

MEN’S CAT A

Men’s Cat A has a new leader in the shape of Jack Kennedy! Kennedy was first of a gaggle of heavy hitters to cross the line in an all out sprint last night and edges Enda Bagnall off the top spot by a single point.

Stephen Mulberry from North West TC remains in third within striking distance of the top spot but the riders behind him have closed the gap somewhat. The Cat A league looks like it could be up for grabs in the coming weeks.

WOMEN’S CAT A

The race is on between Helen Perry and Nicola Kehoe at the top of the A Category. With just Perry and Susan O’Neill contending last night’s road race, Helen Perry has pulled ahead of second placed Nicola Kehoe to lead the league rankings. Clubmates Helen and Susan were head to head throughout last nights 19 kilometres, with Helen Perry pulling ahead by just 10 seconds to cross the line first.

With 51 points the current gap between the top two in the league, there are plenty of weeks left to find out how the battle between Helen Perry and Waterford’s Nicola Kehoe is going to unfold. With 107 points, TriLimit’s Susan O’Neill sits in third.

WOMEN’S CAT A CLUB COMPETITION

The consistent performances of Helen Perry and Susan O’Neill mean that TriLimits TC currently lead this category. Waterford are in second thanks to the efforts of Nicola Kehoe. Belpark TC sit in third with Ciara Bradley’s Round 1 result.

MEN’S CAT A CLUB COMPETITION

Edenderry stay top with TriLimits moving in to second thanks to Niall Quinn adding his points to Mark Farquhar’s efforts. But a new comer in the shape of Belpark TC in third is one to watch with the club fielding two riders Adriele Prina and Luke McMullan over the past two weeks. In Cat A racing, bringing the numbers makes all the difference.

CAT B RESULTS

MEN’S CAT B

With a second 3rd place finish in a row, Quinton Burke (Tri an Mhí) moves to the top of the table on 144 points – the same total as last week’s leader and now second placed Owen Barron. Barron looses out on the top spot because of his fewer top three finishes. Neither Barron nor Burke can afford to only watch each other however as trailing by just a single point on 143 is Chris Gallagher, sixth last night but on the same time as Burke.

WOMEN’S CAT B

Current B League leader Elaine Lally’s absence at last night’s race meant that Olympian’s Kerry McGrillen is now just three points behind her on the league standings. McGrillen was locked in a thrilling race with league newcomer Catriona Lenihan last night, eventually finishing second just one second behind race winner Lenihan.

The B league is always closely contested, and this year is no different. Just eight points separate the top four riders. Lizzie Q currently sits in third on 105 with the ever consistent Beata Kis (3D TC) fourth on 102.

WOMEN’S CAT B CLUB COMPETITION

Lanesboro TC leads the B league with Elaine Lally representing them. In second, Olympian TC sit just three points behind thanks to Kerry McGrillen’s Round 2 and 3 performances. Beata Kis’ 3D Triathlon Club are just five points back in third.

MEN’S CAT B CLUB COMPETITION

Tri an Mhí’s team of Quinton Burke and Kevin Feely stay top on 259 but put more daylight between them and Tri Limits who are on 229 points. The later (made up of Mark Thompson and T ang) however have recruited Lee Woods as their third rider which could make things interesting should they continue to bring the numbers. The same applies to Omagh TC who are only slightly behind on 212 points from their three riders Damian Strain, Michael Holland and Darran Lagan.

CAT C RESULTS

MEN’S CAT C

Gearoid Taylor (Boru TC) retains a ten point gap on 140 points at the top of the men’s Cat C league with Blackwater TC’s Brian Baker in second on 130. But look out behind – (or is that ahead?) lads – Eoin George is coming for the crown. George from Pulse TC won the race last night and in Round 2 putting him on 122 points with an event in hand – definitely a man to watch.

WOMEN’S CAT C

The largest women’s category, 13 riders contested the C Cat last night with Louise Mulvaney, Lucy McDermott and Helen Howe on the podium.

In the WattFest League, Louise Mulvaney currently leads by five points. Omagh TC are showing their depth with Lucy McDermott and Helen Howe in second and third respectively. Their club mate Cathy Cunningham is currently in sixth but has a race in hand so will likely move up the leaderboard as the weeks go on.

WOMEN’S CAT C CLUB COMPETITION

It is no surprise that Omagh TC lead in the C Category with a hugely impressive total of 424 points so far. The club is represented by Lucy McDermott, Helen Howe and Cathy Cunningham. Roberta Hanly and Sinead McHale have contributed to Lanesboro TC’s second place in the league on 185 points. In third, Naas TC have earned 138 points thus far thanks to Tara J.

MEN’S CAT C CLUB COMPETITION

Lanesboro continue to turn out some impressive numbers in C league with four riders adding 145 points to their total last night, bringing them to 496 overall.

Cork Tri stay in second on 259 points and will be looking over their shoulders at TriLimits who have fielded four riders in each of the last two races – they lie just 16 points back in third after last night.

CAT D RESULTS

MEN’S CAT D

Niall Byrne (Pulse TC) completed his collection of little ZwiftPower trophies last night by adding a silver cup to the gold and bronze he won in rounds 1 & 2. He stays top of the league on 168 points. Michael Feeney (Blackwater TC) moves up to second on 156 but his 4th place last night only tells part of the story as the margin was carved out in a sprint finish. He now lies on 156 points – only slightly behind. Paul Henry from Tri Limits moves in to third on 134 points.

WOMEN’S CAT D

Louise McGirl is seven points clear at the top of the women’s D league, with a third place finish last night. Omagh’s Elaine Mallaghan and Kinsale’s Mary Coyne have earned points consistently in the opening weeks of the league for second and third respectively. TriLimits’ Nicola Henry rounds out the top four just four points from the podium.

Winning last night’s race, Kara Appelbe from Cork TC went one better than last week’s result and holds fifth place in the league with a race in hand on those ahead of her. In joint fifth, and second yesterday, is Omagh’s Gemma Skeath. With just two rounds a piece completed, the pair will almost certainly have a big impact on the overall leaderboard in the weeks to come.

WOMEN’S CAT D CLUB COMPETITION

The strong performances of TriLimits TC’s riders Alison Farquhar, Sarah Halliday, Nicola Henry, Tracey McArdle, Lorraine Gillespie and Niamh McGirr mean they sit at the top of the D League.

Omagh are second with points earned by Elaine Mallaghan and Gemma Skeath. Lanesboro TC are third represented by Carmel Hayes and Bernadette Smyth.

MEN’S CAT D CLUB COMPETITION

The Men’s Cat D league retains a familar look with TriLimits staying top on 297 points – a healthy lead over Pulse TC in second (168 points) thanks to their superior rider turn out. `Blackwater TC leapfrog Down TC in to third but with mostly one rider teams making up the D league, the entire picture could change in the coming rounds.

ISSUES OR MISSING RESULTS

Unlike previous Triathlon Ireland leagues, WattFest is 100pc contained on the Zwift and ZwiftPower platforms which means the league table calculations are automatically derived from the race results.

If you don’t see yourself on the league table, your first port of call should be to check the Zwift Power FAQs and then the ZwiftPower support desk (at the bottom of the FAQ page).

Triathlon Ireland doesn’t have the ability to reverse or edit race results but if you have a question you can’t find the answer to by all means email us and we’ll do our best to help.

If you were ‘filtered’ from any of the races it will have been for a technical reason which again, Triathlon Ireland doesn’t have the power to override. We know getting DQ’d can be frustrating and sometimes not even within the control of the rider.

Here’s a run down of the main reasons a rider will find themselves ‘filtered’ out of the results.
