Road To Paris: Edgar & Carr’s Success Streak

JAMES EDGAR

James Edgar’s successful streak continues as he secured silver at the Americas Triathlon Cup La Paz, Mexico, this weekend.

A strong swim saw Edgar emerge from the 1500m swim in 3rd position, with the non-wetsuit swim allowing for lightning quick transitions out on to the 38km bike course for the whole field. The lead athletes blasted through the single lap course at approximately 40kph before attacking the four lap run course.

While Mexico’s Peñaflor Moysen secured a convincing win, Edgar battled to the line for silver narrowly holding off Ukraine’s Vorontsov. The result marks another significant moment in the fight for Olympic Qualification as the current European New Flag holder, Felix Duchampt finished three places further back in 5th position.

Edgar will now focus on the 2024 Europe Triathlon Cup Quarteira next week ranked 79th in the World Triathlon Rankings. Duchampt remains in the new flag for Europe at 49th in the rankings, while Azerbaijan’s Pevtsov drops to 61st.

LIBBY CARR

In the women’s race, Elizabeth Carr continues to make strides on the international scene. Finishing in 5th, Carr’s running abilities saw her wrestle with Mexico’s Torres Gomez before being narrowly edged out for 4th; with both athletes coming within touching distance of Japan’s Fukuoka who crossed the line in 3rd. The host nation’s Rosa Maria Tapia Vidal, currently ranked 10th in the World Triathlon Ranking, was the dominant winner in the women’s race.

The result sees Carr climb another 40 places in the World Triathlon Rankings to 148 as she heads into Africa Triathlon Premium Cup Nelson Mandela Bay on the 7th of April.

Also in action next week in Quarteira’s European Triathlon Junior Cup are Ethan Doherty, Mathys Bocquet and Sean McMahon. Russell White will also get his international season underway next weekend at the World Triathlon Cup Hong Kong.
