Pikeman National Series Triathlon

Wexford Triathlon Club hosted Round 18 of the Naitonal Series on Sunday, 17th of October. Poor weather conditions forced the cancellation of the swim, turning it into a duathlon (5km run – 40km bike – 10km run). Lochlainn Connolly and Becky Woods didn’t let the weather deter their race, coming out on top in the Men’s and Women’s race respectively.

Connolly arrived into transition after the first run some 10 seconds behind Enda Bagnall but he pulled away over the course of the 40km bike, arriving into T2 with a handsome 2 minute lead. Connolly held his own on the final 10km run and wasn’t troubled by anyone behind. Enda Bagnall held onto his second place with Conor Mullany rounding out the podium.

In the women’s race, Becky Woods was the clear favourite after finishing 2nd in her AG at the recent Ironman 70.3 World Championships in Finland. Woods led from start to finish and showed no sign of letting up, crossing the line with over 5 minutes to Ellen Murphy, who in turn was closely followed home by a women who’s been no stranger to the podium at a number of races this year, Helen Perry.

Final Results

Male – 1st Lochlainn Connolly, 2nd Enda Bagnall, 3rd Conor Mullany

Female – 1st Becky Woods, 2nd Ellen Murphy, 3rd Helen Perry
