Skerries and Metalman Now BMW National Series

With September upon us, the BMW Triathlon National Series would usually be 75% completed. But as nobody needs reminding, 2021 has been different.
Although racing has returned, and thousands of triathletes have gotten the chance to get back in to competition since June, this summer has not been without its difficulties as triathlon, just like other sectors of the country has found itself at the mercy of COVID-19.
Despite the best efforts of race organisers and clubs, a number of events in the national series were forced to cancel. Triathlon Ireland is looking forward to these races making their return in 2022 but in the meantime, it’s important that we ensure that everyone who wants to, gets the chance a secure final ranking in the series.
BMW National Series Changes
To make this happen, there needs to be a sufficient number of races spread across all parts of the country.
With such a concentration of events in the month of September, we know this is a tough ask and so today we are making the following changes to the series.
- Metalman Triathlon and Skerries Triathlon are being added to the series – this will bring the number of races back up from 12 to 14 and give more than 800 people a better opportunity to score in the series.
2. The criteria to complete the series are being changed. Now instead of having to race at least one sprint, one standard and one other race; any athlete that completes three events – of any distance in the series will be be qualified.

With these changes, we are hoping to give as many athletes who want to, the chance to complete the series.
Entries Still Available
Currently there are still places available in the following races:
- Lough Cutra Triathlon
- Hazlewood Triathlon
- Pikeman Triathlon
- Westport Triathlon (2021 Standard Distance National Champs)
Get your entry through the race calendar section of our website.
We hope that 2022 will see the return of a normal season of races which athletes can make plans around. Until then, we have a busy September ahead with 11 of the 14 rounds in the BMW Triathlon National Series to be raced.
We’d like to wish taking part a great time!
