Mourne & Loughrea Triathlon National Series

A busy weekend across the country saw lots of racing, including Round 16 and 17 of the Triathlon National Series at Top of the Mourne and Loughrea Triathlons.
We’ve got the wrap of how the weekend’s action unfolded
Kincaid & Fay win at Mourne
One of the toughest standard distance races on the calendar was back on Saturday – Top of the Mourne hosted by Newry Triathlon Club!
The race was Round 16 of the 2022 Triathlon National Series and was hotly contested.
In the men’s race, Matthew Kincaid was fastest on the undulating standard distance swim, bike and run. Cormac McGarry was second, and Daniel McManus third. Aidan Callaghan and Owen Martin rounded out the top five.
Aoife Fay and Helen Perry were first and second in the women’s race, with 43 seconds separating them. Vanessa Fenton was third, Tara Johnston fourth and Caroline Daly fifth.

Foley and Oakey First in Loughrea
A huge day of racing in Loughrea on Sunday saw over 500 triathletes of all ages race at the popular Predator Triathlon Club event. As well as the sprint Triathlon National Series, the event hosted sprint and standard aquabike races, and a standard distance triathlon.
In the morning, the Youth Series supported by Costcutter saw hundreds of juniors enjoy swimming, biking and running. View Gordon Thomson’s gallery here.

In the women’s sprint distance Triathlon National Series, Heather Foley came from fourth after the swim to first off the bike and hold that lead throughout the 5k run.
Piranha TC’s Megan Roberts was second across the line and Predator TC’s Emma Boyle was third in her home race.
In the men’s race, Jonathan Oakey was led from start to finish to win his second race of the Triathlon National Series. Next up for Oakey is the draft-legal Sprint Distance National Champs at Vodafone Dublin City Triathlon.
Recent Middle Distance National Champ winner Niall Cornyn was at his first race since the champs, finishing second in Loughrea.
Ennis TC’s Sabian Kulczynski was third across the line in the Triathlon National Series event.
