Membership Prices 2023

Over the past five years, the sport of triathlon has changed considerably. Triathlon Ireland’s club network has increased by more than 20%; membership has reached record levels; popular new race series like the Youth Series have been created and female participation has risen to 37%. More recently, Triathlon Ireland has begun to implement a new Strategic Plan that will further grow our sport, clubs, visibility and see triathlon take its place as one of Ireland’s leading sports.

The 2017-2022 membership fees are no longer sufficient to cover the costs incurred by Triathlon Ireland or the level of services required to run our sport, particularly as the cost of delivering every aspect of our sport has increased significantly during that time period. Therefore, Triathlon Ireland is increasing membership fees for 2023. This is the first increase since 2017 and comes after a thorough review of our current membership price structure.

These increases are being kept to the absolute minimum amount required – for most Triathlon Ireland members, this will mean you will pay a little over €1 extra per month in 2023.

Triathlon Ireland membership will remain cheaper than that of other sports in similar areas and our level of insurance cover for athletes in 2023 will still be the most comprehensive of any endurance sport.

In addition, fees for club members have been raised at lower levels than those for non-club members, reflecting our commitment to support clubs and grow our sport through the club network.

Membership Fees – Where Your Fee Goes

Insurance
Your Triathlon Ireland membership provides you with full insurance cover while racing and important public liability cover while training with your club or on your own. Triathlon Ireland insurance provides more cover at a lower price than other similar sporting organisations. Insurance continues to be a difficult operational area for our organisation – between 2017 and 2022 Triathlon Ireland’s insurance bill tripled.

Clubs
One of Triathlon Ireland’s core functions is to help grow our club network and support our existing clubs to increase in size and capacity. We do this through administrative support across a wide range of areas such as funding applications, good governance and the development of junior sections. Triathlon Ireland’s club network has increased by more than 20%  since our last membership fee review in 2017.

Events
Brilliant events are one of the things that makes triathlon special and this only happens because of the efforts of clubs and race organisers across the country. Triathlon Ireland’s role is to support these events with a robust sanctioning process, insurance provision, technical officials and marketing support in the form of media coverage, photography and physical activation to give as many events as possible a big race feel.

Developing Our Sport
Triathlon Ireland is lucky to have one of the country’s best and hardest-working Development Officer (DO) teams. In 2017, we had one full-time and three part-time DO’s. Today we have four full-time and two part-time DOs working to support clubs across every area of the island. Development Officers deliver mini triathlons in schools, put on sessions for kids and adults and work closely with clubs to help them increase their ability to deliver triathlon directly to their local communities.

Promoting Female and Junior Membership
At 37%, triathlon has one of the highest female participation rates of any sport in Ireland and a full quarter of all members of Triathlon Ireland are now aged under 18. Both of these metrics are influenced by the hard work of our staff team and volunteers to encourage women and kids, and to develop pathways to bring more of them into our sport.

Implementing our Strategic Plan
Triathlon Ireland has an ambitious strategic plan for 2021-28 which we encourage all our members to read. This plan is the cornerstone of all our actions for the next six years and when implemented will see the landscape of our sport transformed. It focuses on key areas of Youth Development; Mass Participation; Brilliant Events; Diversity and Inclusion; High Performance; and Clubs and Members. To bring the plan to fruition will take vision and hard work by Triathlon Ireland’s staff, volunteers and clubs, and above all financial investment.

Triathlon Ireland looks forward to all that lies ahead for our sport in 2023, and is working hard to make the 2023 season one of our best yet.
