Membership Price Update

Triathlon Ireland is today announcing a membership price change that will come into place from the start of January.

Triathlon Ireland adult membership will be increasing in price from Thursday, 1st January 2026. As an organisation we strive to deliver for our members, and increasing the cost of membership is only considered when unavoidable. A reminder that as 2026 membership is currently available, any members wishing to purchase or renew at the current price can do so prior to the 1st of January. This increase will not affect members who have already purchased 2026 membership, or those whose membership auto-renews, until the 2027 membership season.

Why the Increase?

The Triathlon Ireland insurance premium for 2026 has increased by just over 28% due to conditions in the wider insurance market, as well as an increase in claims to our insurer. This is affecting sports across Ireland and is not something within our control. To provide further context, since 2022 our insurance premium has increased in cost by 133%. The cost of full membership has increased 28% in that time.

We are not willing to reduce the level of insurance cover in place, member safety and protection remain non-negotiable. As an organisation, we are also unable to compromise on the programmes we are delivering within the community to grow our sport. To manage this responsibly, we will be applying an increase to membership fees from 1 January 2026. We have frozen membership costs for all U23, Youth, Junior and Kids memberships.

Speaking on the new measure, Triathlon Ireland CEO Darren Coombes said;

“We appreciate that increases are never welcome. Our aim is to be transparent, measured, and fair; and to continue investing in the parts of the sport that matter most to you. The cost of running an organisation in Ireland is ever increasing, and this is further highlighted in our rising insurance costs. Our hope is that by taking this step now, we can avoid any further membership increases in 2027, when we are again expecting to see an increase in insurance costs.”

Triathlon Ireland membership continues to connect our community on their swim, bike, run journeys, and full membership provides Personal Accident Cover and Public Liability (Third Party) Cover for you when training and racing at sanctioned events. Triathlon Ireland full membership also includes access to exclusive membership discounts and programmes. Members can access their discounts through their membership area on triathlonireland.com.
