Duathlon season is officially in full swing! This Sunday, 3rd of March, we returned to south Kildare for the Flat Out Duathlon, annually hosted by Athy Triathlon Club. With the club colours flying high, it was set to be a fantastic race!
Over 120 athletes gathered for the sprint distance duathlon – although the location was familiar, the athletes were faced with a new course this year.
Enda Bagnall completed the first run with the fastest time of 00:10:30, followed by Ben Butler with a mere difference of 1 second. Ernest Asensio Blasco held the fastest time for both T1 & T2.
The athletes smoothly transitioned to the bike leg of the race, tackling the 23.01km bike route. Conal Cremen, held the fastest time of 00:34:34, which would help secure his 1st place in the overall race. Dean Phelan followed closely behind, with a difference of 7 seconds.
Now onto the run and the last leg of the duathlon – Olivia McCartin was the 1st female to cross the finish line, completing the race in just over an hour, with a time of 01:06:42. Conal Cremen was the first male to cross the finish line, completing the race in just under an hour with a time of 00:57:54. Enda Bagnall followed behind in 2nd place, with a 5 minute difference.
