Over Easter weekend, Triathlon Ireland partnered with YellowBelly CrossFit to deliver a pilot taster session introducing triathlon to new audiences.
Led by Community Development Coach Jo Sweetman, the session used a simple and inclusive format with swim distances self-selected making the session accessible (and enjoyable) for everyone!
• Swim (pool): 150m / 250m / 400m
• Run: 2.5km (pool to gym)
• Bike: 4km (indoor ERG)
The combination of endurance, strength, and conditioning aligns naturally with Strength and Conditioning training.
This approach can be easily replicated by triathlon clubs, gyms, and coaches looking to engage in triathlon.
All that’s needed:
• Access to a pool
• A short, safe run route
• Indoor bikes or ERGs
(Where there is no pool available the programme can be run in a duathlon format).
The Triathlon Ireland YellowBelly CrossFit pilot demonstrated a simple, effective way for people to try out triathlon, meeting them where they already train.
