26/05/2021: The New Covid-19 Events Guidelines

Following our announcement earlier this week that events will return nationwide from 7th June, today we are letting our community know what those events will look like. We are also outlining the safety measures that will be in place to make your triathlon experience worry free as possible.
Under Triathlon Ireland directives developed from Sport Ireland and Sport Northern Ireland guidelines, races will be able to proceed under social distancing and other COVID-19 prevention measures. Support is available to all race organisers from Triathlon Ireland to ensure their events are in compliance and the head of Triathlon Ireland’s Technical Committee has stressed that officials are available to work with races along every step of this process.
Triathlon Ireland are pleased to publish updated Covid-19 Events Guidelines for both Republic of Ireland (ROI) and Northern Ireland (NI). As always, these are working documents and will be updated as Government Guidelines change.
EVENTS IN NORTHERN IRELAND
From May 24th, the maximum number of participants allowed at Triathlon Ireland sanctioned events in Northern Ireland has increased from 100 to 500.
The Covid-19 Events Guidelines for Northern Ireland have been updated to reflect this. Download the document here.
REPUBLIC OF IRELAND EVENTS
For Republic of Ireland events, a Wave System will be in place.
Events will implement a system of socially distanced waves for participants, who will begin their race with a rolling start. Each wave will contain an absolute maximum of 100 people including marshalls and other personnel. Spectators will not be permitted at races.
The total number of participants per race will be decided on a case by case basis according to the event’s ability to guarantee social distancing and the safe delivery of the event from a COVID-19 prevention perspective. Consideration will also be given to the minimum number of participants required to stage a meaningful event safely.
This means in practice, providing they satisfy Triathlon Ireland’s COVID-19 protocols, races will be permitted to have multiple waves.
Clear wave-limit numbers and the times required between waves will be supplied by Triathlon Ireland’s Technical Committee, and Triathlon Ireland will be encouraging race organisers to learn best practice from one another as the summer progresses.
The measures are an initial step and will be reviewed as the broader re-opening of sport continues through the summer months. Download the Covid-19 Events Guidelines for ROI here.
WE EACH HAVE A PART TO PLAY
While every effort is being made by Triathlon Ireland, our race organisers and the technical official team to provide a safe and fun environment for our sport to return, each of us has a personal responsibility when attending events this summer.
Athletes can read about their personal responsibility, and the safety protocol that will be in place at events in the Covid-19 Events Guidelines documents.
WORKSHOPS
Triathlon Ireland will host virtual workshops for those who are running and officiating at events from June 7th to July in order to assist event organisers and officials adhere to the Covid-19 guidelines, and answer any queries.
The workshop will be facilitated by Jane O’Brien and Hugh McAtamney on Wednesday, 9th June at 7pm. Once you complete the below form, meeting access details will be shared.
REGISTER FOR THE WORKSHOP
Please ensure you familiarise yourself with the guidelines in advance of the meeting. We encourage all race organisers and technical officials to attend ahead of 2021 events launching.
