Bike Week with Rebel Wheelers

On a sunny Saturday in Ballincollig, Co. Cork, 16 boys and girls from Rebel Wheelers got to participate in their first ‘Introduction to Triathlon’ session.
These budding athletes started the session with some bike skills, including slalom cycling to help improve wheelchair & bike balance and coordination and limboing to practice wheelchair and bike control.
After the bike session, they moved on to transition practice. This included learning how to fit your helmet safely and correctly, putting it on at a quick pace, and getting to put the helmet on in a transition set up.
Once they had all mastered the art to transition, they participated in some running games- the adults were definitely the bigger children here!
The day culminated in a duathlon where the athletes got to put all their newly learned skills into practice. There was great excitement, the smiles were clearly evident and all those participating were awarded with medals and certificates for the great work.

This event would not have been possible without the support of Rebel Wheelers in particular Cornelius and Maire Marshall and Cork Sports Partnership.
