Zwift Winter-Spring League: Rnd 9 Results

Round 9 Results: Sand and Sequoias
Sprint finishes all round!! Well, that was exciting!
In the ninth week of the league and it is at this point that we get to see the best eight of each rider for the first time but, more importantly, who still has races in hand. The categories are now speckled with those who have been showing consistent results but have a race or two in hand to build a healthy chunk of points. We can’t wait to see how the leaderboards adjust in the coming weeks!

DON’T FORGET!
These tables are of Triathlon Ireland riders only but we rely on you to tell us this fact through club affiliation – we have a whole section on how the table is calculated and what to do if you don’t see your name on this page – just scroll down to the bottom of the article.
For riders who were WKG’d, UPG’d or upgraded by ZwiftPower – please note that these are automatic decisions made by ZwiftPower which Triathlon Ireland has no authority over. If you get in touch with us, we will do our best to explain what can sometimes be a confusing scenario but before you do that please read Zwift’s FAQs which has the technical explanations for all of these decisions and will likely do a better job then we can.
A LEAGUE INDIVIDUAL MEN
Position | Name | Club | Points |
1 | Enda Bagnall | Eden TC | 483 |
2 | Adriele Prina | Belpark TC | 411 |
3 | Mark Thompson | TriLimits TC | 377 |
For just the second time in the league, Enda Bagnall was relegated to the second step of the podium in Watopia last night. In a sprint that saw the top three riders finish on the same second, Oran Kane made his mark to win his first outing of the Winter-Spring League. TriLimit’s Mark Farquhar finished third in his third podium of the league.
Now that we can see each riders best eight, and who still has races in hand, there’s no denying that Bagnall’s lead is solid, with a 72 point gap to second place Belpark’s Adriele Prina. Inside the rest of the top 10, there are a number of contenders with at least one race in hand…it’s going to be an exciting few weeks!

1 | Aoife Wilson | NorthWest TC | 366 |
With her hard work last week in vain after ZwiftPower filtered the result, Aoife Wilson returned this week and showed her characteristically strong performance. Third fastest overall female rider of the night, and first in Cat A with a time of 32:00.

Position | Name | Club | Points |
1 | Gail Martin | Lisburn TC | 445 |
2 | Helen Perry | TriLimits TC | 397 |
3 | Medbh Peavoy | Pulse TC | 391 |
With Gail Martin’s best eight results calculated she has a comfortable lead of 48 points at the head of the Cat B Women’s League.
Helen Perry has had a strong few weeks of racing to move into second on the leaderboard just six points ahead of Pulse Tri’s Medbh Peavoy, who was absent last night.
Claire Dillon had her fourth win of just six races in last night’s race to hold sixth on the league table with 349. With that many races in hand, and showing that type of form, she will be one to watch for Martin, Perry and Peavoy.

1 | Oliver Harkin | Newry TC | 439 |
2 | Gary Condell | Trilogy TC | 375 |
2 | Colm Bellew | Fingal TC | 361 |
A big group sprint made for an exciting end to the Men’s Cat B race in Watopia last night. In his first race of the league, Piranha TC’s Conor Fitzpatrick showed off his winter training to out sprint league regulars Colm Bellew and Oliver Harkin.
Former league leader Kevin Gilleece has been upgraded to the A Cat, meaning that Colm Bellew from Fingal TC now moves into third on the table. After showing consistent form over the nine rounds and second last night, Bellew will now have his sights set on second placed Gary Condell who has just a 14 point lead.

C LEAGUE INDIVIDUAL MEN’S
Position | Name | Club | Points |
1 | Peter Blissett | Cork TC | 463 |
2 | Pat Linehan | Piranha TC | 357 |
3 | Diarmuid Furey | Belpark TC | 333 |
Victory for Peter Blissett last night sees him cement what was an already comfortable lead at the top of the men’s C League. Having finished either first or second in all but one of his races in the league so far, Blissett can spend the next four rounds on a high heart rate victory lap, such is his points total.
Pat Linehan also put some daylight between his second place position and his nearest rivals, after claiming third overall last night. He sits 24 points clear of Diarmuid Furey. But that’s a gap that’s easily bridged in the space of the coming three rounds – in fact there are currently as many as seven riders competing for the final two podium spots in the men’s C league.
C LEAGUE INDIVIDUAL WOMEN’S
Position | Name | Club | Points |
1 | Róisín Donohoe | Longford TC | 430 |
2 | Cathy Cunningham | Omagh TC | 413 |
3 | Elaine Lally | Limerick TC | 401 |
After weeks of unbearably close competition at the top of the Women’s C League, Roisin Donohoe came away from a three-up sprint for the line last night with the maximum points haul of 61 and a gap that was small in time but significant in points over Cunningham’s group which was the next on the road.
The margin now stands at 17 points but as any observer of the Donohoe-Cunningham battle can attest to, this one is likely to be up for grabs until Round 12.
But the story of the league doesn’t end there because after completing her 8th scoring race last night, Elaine Lally moves in to third on 401 points. That’s just 12 behind Cunningham and 29 behind Donohoe. Lally won Rounds seven and eight so her ability is not in question – what was once a two way battle is now increasingly looking like a three-way race for overall victory!

D LEAGUE INDIVIDUAL WOMEN’S
Position | Name | Club | Points |
1 | Louise McGirl | 371 | |
2 | Maeve Galloway | Down TC | 364 |
3 | Rachel Eager | Pulse TC | 303 |
After missing last week, Louise McGirl made a strong return to racing, finishing second to retain her position at the top of the Women’s D League. But only just, as second placed rider Maeve Galloway won last night to close the margin to a mere two points!
Both riders have the minimum of eight races contributing to their overall score and with third placed Miriam Grogan 71 points back in third but with only seven rounds completed, we might just have a new candidate for the closest run Zwift race in town!

Position | Name | Club | Points |
1 | Keith Ryan | Mako TC | 437 |
2 | Stephen Smyth | 3D TC | 404 |
2 | Kevin Hughes | TriLimits TC | 397 |
Keith Ryan made good on on his potential to takeover the Men’s D League and with victory last night moves in to first place overall. His margin of 33 points gives him a commanding but not unassailable lead over Stephen Smyth in second place, and Kevin Hughes in third. Hughes in particular is one to watch having only seven races to his name – among them four victories and last night’s second place.

RESULTS
You can see all the race results and dig in to the in-depth data on the race’s ZwiftPower page.
In contrast to Triathlon Ireland’s autumn league, the 2021 Winter-Spring League does not have its own page on Zwift Power. Instead we are compiling the individual and club rankings ourselves – this is being done to ensure we can allocate points equally to men and women.
The same scoring criteria apply from our previous league: (with women and men assigned points separately).
1st : 61 points
2nd : 56 points
3rd : 51 points
4th-50th : 49-3 points
Every finisher from 51st onwards will receive 1 point.
The team competition pulls points each week from a club’s best five riders – unlike the Autumn League however once each week’s club score is finalised it can’t change of a rider subsequently changes teams.
The same will apply to riders who manage to earn an upgrade during the league – if you move up a category, you cannot take your already earned points with you as this would not be fair to your new rivals in your upgraded cat.
WHY AM I NOT THERE?
If you don’t see your name on either the ZwiftPower race results sheet or the Triathlon Ireland league standings here are some leads to follow up:
FILTERED RIDERS
ZwiftPower will ‘filter’ (aka exclude) any results from riders for a number of reasons, the most common being the absence of a heart rate monitor, a verified power meter or those who entered a power category below their ability/exceeded the W/kg for the power category they entered.
These are automated decisions based on power and made by ZwiftPower not Triathlon Ireland.
While Zwift racing is primarily about having fun, we have a responsibility to ensure that any race that carried our name is also fair so unfortunately if you were excluded or ‘filtered’ it is for a legitimate reason. Filtering is an automatic, data based decision by ZwiftPower designed to ensure an above board race.
We know it can be heart breaking when your HR monitor or Power Meter data fail you in a race but view it like having a mechanical that causes you to pull out of a real life race – it’s unfortunate but not grounds to have your result re-instated.
LEAGUE TABLES
If you are missing from the Triathlon Ireland League Table it is likely for one of two reasons
– You are not assigned to a Triathlon Ireland club on ZwiftPower
– You are not assigned to Triathlon Ireland on ZwiftPower
Only riders assigned to a Triathlon Ireland club or to Triathlon Ireland (as a club) will be included in the results sheets. If however you are a Triathlon Ireland 2021 member and have been left off for these reasons, drop us an email – we are happy to re-instate you. Please email roisin@triathlonireland.com.
Only riders assigned to a Triathlon Ireland club will be added to the Club Rankings tables.
