WattFest Round 8 Results

Everything Bagel
The second last round of WattFest21 saw plenty of action across the leagues and in some cases set everything up for a winner takes all battle on the last round next week.
Everything Bagel split the field in to pieces allowing the strongest riders to put time in to their competitors – well done to those who put the hammer down and won out last night: Stephen Mulbery, Beáta Kis, Chris Gallagher, Louise Mulvaney, Martin Feeney, Kara Appelbe and Michael Feeney!

CAT A RESULTS
MEN’S CAT A
With both Jack Kennedy and Enda Bagnall sitting out last night’s race, Everything Bagel was a great chance for the rest of Men’s Cat A to go points hunting.
Against some stiff competition, Stephen Mulberry finished seventh and displaced his lowest score by a point. He stays in third but is within striking distance of the top two if he scores big in the final round.
WOMEN’S CAT A
A quieter night for the Women’s Cat A, with all contenders choosing to sit out last night’s race. They must be saving the legs for next week’s last round – Road to Sky!
The leaderboard remains unchanged – Nicola Kehoe leads on 361 points, Helen Perry on 346 and Susan O’Neill on 265 points.
WOMEN’S CAT A CLUB COMPETITION
Without any Cat A racing last night, the club standings stay the same. TriLimits currently have a sizeable lead on 606 points with Waterford TC second on 361.
MEN’S CAT A CLUB COMPETITION
The Men’s Cat A Club competition is almost unchanged since last week with only Edenderry picking up a single point to move to 288. Belpark stay second on 315 and Edenderry remain on top with 371 points.
CAT B RESULTS
MEN’S CAT B
Men’s Cat B leader Quinton Burke didn’t race last night but stays top of the league on 297 points. The main mover was Chris Gallagher – a 5th place finish saw him replace his lowest score in the league and move within 11 points of Burke making for an exciting finale next week.
Third placed Owen Barron also closed the gap on the top last night by replacing his lowest score – he’s now on 265 points.
WOMEN’S CAT B
It is all going to come down to the final week to decide the winner of the B League! Beáta Kis was the first WattFest contender to cross the line last night on the Everything Bagel course, leaving her on 326 points after seven rounds. Kis was ahead of Elaine Lally by just 26 seconds last night, Lally’s third place means she is just six points of the lead overall. This will be one to watch on Road to Sky next week!
Third place in the league is Kerry McGrillen, who sat out last night’s round.
WOMEN’S CAT B CLUB COMPETITION
A quieter week for the B league saw no changes in the overall team standings. Elaine Lally’s and Carmel Hayes’ Lanesboro TC lead on 368 points, Beáta Kis’ 3d Tri Club are second on 326. Olympian TC round out the podium on 209 points.
MEN’S CAT B CLUB COMPETITION
After weeks of increasingly strong performances, Tri Limits made good on their potential last night and moved in to first place on 463 points. Tri an Mhí (457 points) slip to second but the gap is a mere six points which means the Men’s Cat B Club competition is going down to the final round on the big mountain.
Omagh TC hold on to third on 424 points – within striking distance of the top spot if they can turn out more riders for the final round.
CAT C RESULTS
MEN’S CAT C
A big performance from league leader Gearoid Taylor (Boru TC) last night sees him extend his advantage on Men’s Cat C at a crucial juncture. He’s now on 292 points – 14 ahead of second placed Krzysztof Matecki who missed last night’s race.
Brian Baker was the other big mover last night, his 6th place finish allowing him to ditch his lowest scoring race and move closer to second place – Baker is now a mere eight points off Matecki.
WOMEN’S CAT C
Another week, another win for Louise Mulvaney! Mulvaney now has a comfortable 47 point lead at the top of the WattFest league table with one round left.
Last night’s race podium matches what is now the league podium. Omagh’s Helen Howe retains her silver spot heading into the final round while clubmate Cathy Cunningham is back into third after a solid showing on Everything Bagel.
The C League has been hotly contested from the off, and next week will decide the battle for bronze which looks to be decided between Cathy Cunningham and Roberta Hanly.
WOMEN’S CAT C CLUB COMPETITION
Omagh still have a commanding lead on the C League Club standings on 827 points thanks to a strong four person team. In second on 551 are Lanesboro TC represented by Roberta Hanly, Sinead McHale and Carmel Hayes.
Naas have moved into third spot for the first time on 281 points thanks to the efforts of Tara J NTC.
MEN’S CAT C CLUB COMPETITION
No surprise to learn that Lanesboro remain on top of the Men’s Cat C Club competition with a lead that’s been unassailable for a number of rounds.
After seeing their second place threatened by Cork TC in the past few rounds, Belpark TC reacted strongly last night by picking up almost sixty points. They’re now on 584 compared to Cork’s 549. Cork themselves increased their score by 36 last night and in the process left themselves with a fighting chance of battling for that second place next week.
CAT D RESULTS
MEN’S CAT D
Things could not be tighter at the top of Men’s Cat D. After watching third placed Paul Henry win last week, Michael Feeney (310 points) got in on the action last night and picked up maximum points. That moves Feeney within 11 points of first place with one round to go!
Occupying that top spot is Niall Byrne. Byrne has been strong all league and even though he lost a little ground last night, he still managed second place. Byrne is now on 321 points – a slender lead but a lead nonethless.
But don’t discount Paul Henry! Last week we mentioned that Henry could threaten the top if he replaces some of his lower scores – and that’s exactly what he did last night by finishing in 4th place. Henry is now on 305 points – just 16 off the top – making this a three way race next over the final round!
WOMEN’S CAT D
In the Women’s Cat D, Kara Appelbe is seeing her lead extend week by week. Winning last night in impressive fashion by over three minutes, Cork TC’s Appelbe has now got a 32 point lead on her nearest competitor, Louise McGirl.
TriLimits’ Lorraine Gillespie finished on her first podium of WattFest at Round 8, subsequently moving into third on the league table. However, the battle for the third place spot is going to go down to the wire. Just four points now separate Gillespie and Omagh’s Elaine Mallaghan in fourth place.
WOMEN’S CAT D CLUB COMPETITION
Again, there are no changes in the club standings this week. TriLimits hold their lead on 824 points. Omagh stay in second on 518 and Cork TC in third on 351.
MEN’S CAT D CLUB COMPETITION
TriLimits stay top of the D Cat Club competition on 501 points with Blackwater closing the gap slightly on 413.
Pulse TC stay third on 321 points.
ISSUES OR MISSING RESULTS
Unlike previous Triathlon Ireland leagues, WattFest is 100pc contained on the Zwift and ZwiftPower platforms which means the league table calculations are automatically derived from the race results.
If you don’t see yourself on the league table, your first port of call should be to check the Zwift Power FAQs and then the ZwiftPower support desk (at the bottom of the FAQ page).
Triathlon Ireland doesn’t have the ability to reverse or edit race results but if you have a question you can’t find the answer to by all means email us and we’ll do our best to help.
If you were ‘filtered’ from any of the races it will have been for a technical reason which again, Triathlon Ireland doesn’t have the power to override. We know getting DQ’d can be frustrating and sometimes not even within the control of the rider.
Here’s a run down of the main reasons a rider will find themselves ‘filtered’ out of the results.
