WattFest Round 7 Results

Volcano Climb After Party
After seven rounds, we’ve reached the stage in WattFest21 where replacement races start to count and the margins throughout the eight league tables are getting ever tighter.
There are just two rounds left in this iteration of WattFest and they’re both exciting prospects – Everything Bagel next week and the finale of the league, a mass start race up the mighty Road to Sky route on December 29th.
Back to last night and a big shout out to the fastest riders of Round 7: Jack Kennedy, Nicola Kehoe, Quinton Bourke, Chloe Pollard, Adrian Kelly, Louise Mulvaney, Paul Henry and Louise McGirl!

CAT A RESULTS
MEN’S CAT A
After missing last week, Jack Kennedy returned with a bang on Round 7, finishing 5th on the night and bagging his 6th race of the league. That puts Kennedy in to first place overall, eight points ahead of last week’s leader Enda Bagnall who also has six scores recorded. Just one point further back is Stephen Mulberry who crossed the line in 8th last night. It’s been nip and tuck all the way through the A League and by the looks of the table, this is a three way race that might not be decided until the final round has been raced.
WOMEN’S CAT A
The longest course of the league so far did little to quell the competition between Nicola Kehoe and Helen Perry. The pair went head to head through the last climb and in a sprint to the line it was Kehoe who crossed the line a hair in front, just 0.223 seconds separating them. Helen Perry is joined in the A league by another TriLimits club mate, Tracey McArdle, who finished third last night. Two wins in a row means that Waterford’s Nicola Kehoe has a 15 point lead over Helen Perry. Susan O’Neill is still third on 265 points.
WOMEN’S CAT A CLUB COMPETITION
The now three strong TriLimits Team of Helen Perry, Susan O’Neill and Tracey McArdle are going to be hard to beat, sitting at the top of the leader board on 606 points. Waterford stay in second represented by Nicola Kehoe and Belpark third thanks to Ciara Bradley’s week one result.
MEN’S CAT A CLUB COMPETITION
Only minor changes to the points and none to the standings in the men’s A League with Edenderry remaining on top with 371 points, Belpark TC closing the gap by a point to 315 and NorthWest picking up three to rest on 287 points.
CAT B RESULTS
MEN’S CAT B
As mentioned at the top of this article, Round 7 sees WattFest head in to score replacement territory and Quinton Burke has been busy. A second place finish last night enabled Burke to take 56 points and ditch his lowest other score (of 38) with the result that he gains 18 points and now leads Men’s Cat B by 14 points.
In contrast Chris Gallagher didn’t increase his score at all last night despite coming home in 11th place – with six strong results on his score sheet already, Gallagher will have to go 5th or better to pick up points.
Third placed Owen Barron is in a similar position to Gallagher – with a full slate of six races making up his score, last night’s 20th placed finish didn’t increase his points, plus behind him Mark Kenny has closed the gap to three points – this could be a battle to keep an eye on next week.
WOMEN’S CAT B
Beáta Kis had another solid week to retain her lead of the B League. Finishing third in last night’s race, Kis has built a sizeable 50 point lead on second placed Elaine Lally from Lanesboro TC. Lally however, has a race in hand so Kis will still need to remain consisten over the remaining weeks. On 209 points, Kerry McGrillen is in third on the Triathlon Ireland Wattfest leaderboard.
Shoutout to newly upgraded Lucy McDermott from Omagh TC on scoring her first B League points on a tough course last night!
WOMEN’S CAT B CLUB COMPETITION
Yet again there are no changes at the top of the B League team standings. Single riders teams currently round out the rest of the podium. Lanesboro on 365 lead Beata Kis’ 3D TC on 319. In third are Olympian TC on 209.
MEN’S CAT B CLUB COMPETITION
Tri an Mhí pick up 19 points to stay top of the C Cat Club Competition but TriLimts are the big movers, increasing their overall score by 34 points. There are only 25 points between the two clubs now – far too small a gap to predict who will come out on top.
Omagh TC stay third and with only one rider able to improve on his previous scores have lost a little ground to TriLimits. There’s a 51 points spread from 1st to 3rd however so Omagh could still go top.
CAT C RESULTS
MEN’S CAT C
After marking him out as a man to watch once he gets six races competed, Krzysztof Matecki (Wexford Tri) finally made his move last night with with a third place finish and 51 points. Matecki jumped from 4th but not to 1st – instead Gearoid Taylor (Boru TC) mounted a superb rearguard action to hang on to that spot by three points. Taylor was 5th across the line last night but that was sufficient to allow him ditch his Round 5 score and go up by six points. The Matecki-Taylor battle looks to only be heating up at this stage!
We have a new (joint) third placed athlete in Men’s Cat C – having hidden a little down the table by dint of his race in hand, J Healy made a giant leap forward last night after a fantastic 56 point haul from his second place finish. He’s now level with Brian Baker on 262 points.
WOMEN’S CAT C
The pressure is on the top five of the WattFest C League, the battle is on to decide which three will fill the podium. Louise Mulvaney won on the Volcano Climb After Party course with an impressive 1:09:09 time.
Her second win in a row means she retains her lead of the league on 361 points. Helen Howe has leap frogged Roberta Hanly to move into second after finishing with third place points last night. Hanly in third on 282 points. In fourth and fifth currently are Sinead McHale (258 points) and Cathy Cunningham (253 points).
Both have a race in hand, having only completed five rounds thus far, and both are potential podium finishers. The C League is far from decided, it’s going to be an exciting few weeks!
WOMEN’S CAT C CLUB COMPETITION
Even without earning any points in round seven, Omagh still have a commanding lead on the C League Club standings on 821 points. In second on 547 are Lanesboro while Olympian still hold third on 266.
MEN’S CAT C CLUB COMPETITION
Lanesboro stay well clear on top of the C Cat Club competition with 954 points from 26 race finishes.
The real battle – the fight between Cork TC and Belpark stays red hot. After seeing Cork close the gap to two points last week, Belpark reacted strongly last night and moved six points clear. But at 518 v 513 it could still go anywhere over the last two rounds.
CAT D RESULTS
MEN’S CAT D
A strong third place from league leader Niall Byrne (Pulse TC) last night sees him consolidate his lead in the Men’s Cat D league. He’s now on 314 points – 20 ahead of 2nd placed Paul Henry.
Henry actually won last night’s race and has a conspicuously low score of 40 from the opening round – if he manages to replace that in the last two races, he could be right up with Byrne.
Michael Feeney (Blackwater TC) missed last night and drops from second to third overall on 289 points – but still in with a shot of the overall. Like Henry, Feeney has a low score of 40 he could replace in the final two rounds.
WOMEN’S CAT D
Kara Appelbe finished third last night to move out of her tie with Elaine Mallaghan and onto 339 points. Louise McGirl made the most of Mallaghan’s absence last night, finishing second on the road and first Triathlon Ireland WattFest rider to move into second on 319 points.
Elaine Mallaghan sat out last night’s race but holds third in the league on 290 points. The top three are now all on six events completed meaning the final rounds will be key in deciding final podium positions.
WOMEN’S CAT D CLUB COMPETITION
Again, there are no changes in the club standings this week. TriLimits seem unreachable at this point with 900 points. Omagh stay in second on 517 and Cork TC in third on 341.
MEN’S CAT D CLUB COMPETITION
TriLimits stay top of the D Cat Club competition on 538 points – a substantial lead over second placed Blackwater TC on 392 points.
Pulse TC (aka Niall Byrne) stay third on 314 – within reach of second placed but in need of more riders to bridge the gap.
ISSUES OR MISSING RESULTS
Unlike previous Triathlon Ireland leagues, WattFest is 100pc contained on the Zwift and ZwiftPower platforms which means the league table calculations are automatically derived from the race results.
If you don’t see yourself on the league table, your first port of call should be to check the Zwift Power FAQs and then the ZwiftPower support desk (at the bottom of the FAQ page).
Triathlon Ireland doesn’t have the ability to reverse or edit race results but if you have a question you can’t find the answer to by all means email us and we’ll do our best to help.
If you were ‘filtered’ from any of the races it will have been for a technical reason which again, Triathlon Ireland doesn’t have the power to override. We know getting DQ’d can be frustrating and sometimes not even within the control of the rider.
Here’s a run down of the main reasons a rider will find themselves ‘filtered’ out of the results.
