WattFest Round 6 Results

Innsbruckring

Three laps around the streets of Innsbruck provided the platform for some furious racing last night on Round 6 of WattFest. The aptly named Leg Snapper, which riders surmounted three times didn’t disappoint and was the deciding factor on who made the front packs across most of the eight men’s and women’s categories.

Well done to our winners on the night – Enda Bagnall, Nicola Kehoe, Chris Gallagher, Elaine Lally, Krzysztof Matecki, Helen Howe, Sean Curran and Kara Appelbe!

It’s all flat, until it most definitely isn’t next week when we tackle a course with a massive sting in the tail. Volcano Climb After Party is a masterclass in suspense as it takes riders around Volcano Flats for most of the race before the final attack to the summit finish line.

CAT A RESULTS

MEN’S CAT A

With rival Jack Kennedy sitting out last night’s race, Enda Bagnall was presented with a golden chance to put some distance behind him at the top of Cat A – and this he did with a seventh placed finish – the best of all the Triathlon Ireland riders in a race that saw an influx of Zwift heavy hitters from across clubs and timezones.

Bagnall now lies first on 298 points – but finishing on the same time as him last night was the league’s new second placed athlete Stephen Mulberry. Mulberry lies just 14 points off the top and with him and Bagnall often bettering each other must be considered a legit contender for the overall league win.

Only twenty points further adrift is third placed Lochlainn Connolly, Connolly had a strong race last night, finishing a just two seconds behind Bagnall and Mulberry – it’s tight at the top!

WOMEN’S CAT A

Another week, another battle at the top of the A Cat leaderboard. There may only be three riders, but they are making it a league to remember with some outstanding and competitive performances.

Waterford’s Nicola Kehoe took the top honours for the second week in a row to hold the lead in the league. Just ten points separate Kehoe from Helen Perry on 290 at this point, we can’t wait until next week! Finishing in third on the challenging Innsbruckring course, Susan O’Neill is third on the league leader board on 265 points.

WOMEN’S CAT A CLUB COMPETITION

No changes in the Club Standings here. With both Helen Perry and Nicola Kehoe riding for TriLimit’s TC and earning top points, they hold the top spot and it is difficult to see how they will be overtaken at this point. Nicola Kehoe’s Waterford TC are in second.

MEN’S CAT A CLUB COMPETITION

Edenderry stay top of the team competition on 371 points thanks to their sole rider Enda Bagnall. Adriele Prina keeps Belpark in second on 314 points. We have a new third placed team however in the form of NorthWest TC aka Stephen Mulberry who on 284 points.

CAT B RESULTS

MEN’S CAT B

What a battle we have in Men’s Cat B!

After moving in to the top spot last week, Chris Gallagher showed he intends to stay there by finishing first of all the Triathlon Ireland B riders on Innsbruckring. This he managed by the tiniest of margins – just 0.2 of a second against none other than the man he claimed first from in Round 6 – Quinton Burke (Tri an Mhí).

And so the gap between Gallagher and Burke increases from three to four points. But with Round 7 we head in to replacement territory and Burke has one relatively low score from Round 6 that he could improve on – this looks to be one that’s headed down to the wire.

Owen Barron stays third on 260 points – 18 points clear of the rest and with a podium spot in his grasp.

WOMEN’S CAT B

What a difference a week makes! Zwift League regular Beáta Kis has extended her lead at the top of the leader board to 48 points ahead of second placed Kerry McGrillen. In a thrilling three rider sprint for the line last night, Elaine Lally won by the smallest of margins to also move into second on the league table.

Worth noting is that both Kerry McGrillen (209 points) and Elaine Lally (220 points) have a race in hand, having completed four rounds to Kis’ five. This could make all the difference in the weeks to come!

WOMEN’S CAT B CLUB COMPETITION

Consistent performances mean no changes in the team standings. The Lanesboro Team of Elaine Lally and Carmel Hayes still hold the top spot on 316 points. In second is 3D represented solely by Beáta Kis. On 209 points and in third place, Olympian TC Belfast also has just one rider, Kerry McGrillen.

MEN’S CAT B CLUB COMPETITION

Tri an Mhí (439 points) stay top despite lower team numbers last night than second placed TriLimits (399 points).

The gap is still too narrow to give them any comfort however and just like the individual B Cat competition, the team prize is very much up for grabs between not two but three clubs.

This is because Omagh TC took a step closer to second on Inssbruckring with a strong showing from `Michael Holland and Darran Lagan – they’re now just 10 points off TriLimits in third.

CAT C RESULTS

MEN’S CAT C

If the bookies were taking bets on Zwift racing, they’d have a hard time setting the odds on who is going to win the Men’s Cat C.

Gearoid Taylor (Boru TC) is the leader on 275 points and the favourite having come home fourth (and second of the Triathlon Ireland riders) last night. But the details of that strong performance hold some indication of where the threats to his leadership might lie. After outsprinting Taylor last night, Krzysztof Matecki moves in to 4th place on 227 but still with a race in hand – watch this man if he completes his sixth race next week!

And that’s by no means where the excitement ends in Cat C – tied for second on 255 and only 20 points back are last week’s race winner Adam Lovett and Brian Baker. Cat C could literally go anywhere over the final rounds.

WOMEN’S CAT C

More changes in the leaderboard for the C League with some riders sitting out Round 6, giving the chance for some breakthrough performances over the challenging Innsbruckring course.

League leader Louise Mulvaney took her first break for six weeks, meaning  second placed Roberta Hanly moves closer in points on 279, just 21 adrift.

Coming home in last night’s road race as the lead league rider, Helen Howe overtakes clubmate Cathy Cunningham to complete the league top three. Cunningham is just three points behind however, so this race isn’t over yet!

WOMEN’S CAT C CLUB COMPETITION

League leaders Omagh TC are well represented and have a huge 821 points haul for riders Lucy McDermot, Helen Howe, Cathy Cunningham and Sinead Donnelly.

On 486 points in second place, Roberta Hanly and Sinead McHale’s Lanesboro team is showing impressive form week in and week out, it’s going to take something special from the rest of the top ten to overtake them. Tara J NTC is Naas TC sole rider, earning an impressive 229 points with her performances thus far to move into third in the league ahead of Olympian.

MEN’S CAT C CLUB COMPETITION

No surprises at the top of the Cat C Club competition with Lanesboro maintaining their impressive club turnout of 26 riders over six rounds to stay well clear on 960 points.

Behind them things are getting tight. Cork Tri are still in third but have closed the gap on second placed Belpark TC to just two points! As we’ve stated before, Zwift team riding is a numbers game and if they keep it up, Cork’s greater participation rate looks likely to give them a chance to go second – that is unless Belpark can turn out more riders over the final three rounds.

CAT D RESULTS

MEN’S CAT D

Niall Byrne (Pulse TC) stays top of Men’s Cat D and extended his lead ever so slightly last night by outsprinting second placed Michael Feeney (Blackwater TC) to the line. The gap is tight – something Feeney will take confidence from as we move in to the final deciding rounds.

With Paul Henry missing last night, we have a new third placed athlete and it’s in the form of the Cat D dark horse Stephen Smyth (3D TC).

Smyth finished ahead of Byrne and Feeney last night and with a race in hand still, could make it a three way race once he hits six events.

WOMEN’S CAT D

It has all changed at the top of the D League this week, with just 57 points between the top six nothing is final yet, it will all be decided in the remaining rounds.

At the top of the league table there’s now a tie between Cork TC’s Kara Appelbe and Omagh’s Elaine Mallaghan, both on 290 points. Appelbe scored an impressive third win of the league last night at Innsbrukring. With a race in hand, the pressure will be on Elaine Mallaghan in the coming weeks to make the most of that advantage.

Kinsale TC’s Mary Coyne has now moved up into the third spot on 265 points but as has been the theme in recent weeks between the top five in this league, both Louise McGirl and Nicola Henry sit just behind her on 263 and 262 respectively.

WOMEN’S CAT D CLUB COMPETITION

Another club league with no changes this week, TriLimits remain in the top spot on a whopping 900 points. Omagh are second on 517. Kara Appelbe is solely responsible for Cork Tri’s current third place standing on 290 points.

MEN’S CAT D CLUB COMPETITION

Blackwater TC are the big movers in the Cat D club competition – they turned out three riders (Vincent Guerin, Martin Feeney and Michael Feeney) last night to TriLimits zero riders and have made a giant leap towards the top.

TriLimits are still 85 points clear and have managed to bring 11 riders out in five rounds – they’ll need to get their riders back in the saddle if they want to stay clear.

Pulse’s sole rider Niall Byrne continues to represent strongly for his club and has them in third on 312 points.

ISSUES OR MISSING RESULTS

Unlike previous Triathlon Ireland leagues, WattFest is 100pc contained on the Zwift and ZwiftPower platforms which means the league table calculations are automatically derived from the race results.

If you don’t see yourself on the league table, your first port of call should be to check the Zwift Power FAQs and then the ZwiftPower support desk (at the bottom of the FAQ page).

Triathlon Ireland doesn’t have the ability to reverse or edit race results but if you have a question you can’t find the answer to by all means email us and we’ll do our best to help.

If you were ‘filtered’ from any of the races it will have been for a technical reason which again, Triathlon Ireland doesn’t have the power to override. We know getting DQ’d can be frustrating and sometimes not even within the control of the rider.

Here’s a run down of the main reasons a rider will find themselves ‘filtered’ out of the results.
