WattFest Round 4 Results

WATOPIA’S RETURN

After the novelty of racing over Suki’s Playground in Round 3, last night’s course was a much more known quantity in the form of Watopia’s Figure 8 course. The rolling, twisting, and at times underwater, 30km of tarmac has two well signposted points of attack but that doesn’t mean it’s any easier to react when the watts go wild.

Last night’s racing saw a mixture of sprint finishes and solo breaks to win the eight categories across the women’s and men’s leagues – we’ve git a round up of how it all effects the overall league tables below.

RESULTS

But first, our weekly reminder – WattFest is open to everyone but these race reports focus solely on the Triathlon Ireland members or riders who are attached to Triathlon Ireland clubs within the ZwiftPower rankings.

If you are a member and we’ve missed you in our round up of the top positions, just drop us a line and we’ll be happy to include you in future.

The results of the race and league individual and club categories can both be found on ZwiftPower – if you don’t see yourself listed, scroll down to the bottom of this page where we have some tips that might answer your query.

CAT A RESULTS

MEN’S CAT A

Jack Kennedy extends his lead in Men’s Cat A with a second placed finish last night in a sprint to the line in downtown Watopia. After coming home in 8th place, Enda Bagnall stays in second but the deficit has increased by 10 points with Stephen Mulberry another six down after finishing 4th last night – Men’s Cat A looks increasingly competitive!

WOMEN’S CAT A

The battle at the top of the Women’s A League rages on! A tiny .33 of a second separated Helen Perry and Nicola Kehoe at the finish line in Watopia yesterday evening.

Perry leads the league after four rounds on 234, Kehoe is in second on 178 but with a race in hand after skipping round 3. Susan O’Neill sits in third on 158. It really is all to play for in the coming weeks!

WOMEN’S CAT A CLUB COMPETITION

The Club Competition remains unchanged with TriLimits leading, having two riders in the league to Waterford’s one.

MEN’S CAT A CLUB COMPETITION

No change in the top three of the Cat A club competition but the order has switched. Edenderry (consisting of Alan Connolly and Enda Bagnall) still lead and are on 269 points. Belpark’s team of Adriele Prina and Luke McMullan move from third to second and now lie just 38 points adrift. This means TriLimits, who are largely relying on Mark Farquhar, slip to third but on 212 points are not so far behind that a second rider wouldn’t bring about a dramatic change in their fortunes.

CAT B RESULTS

MEN’S CAT B

A third third (yes, we meant that) puts Quinton Burke from Tri an Mhí top of the Men’s Cat B league and gives him a little bit of breathing room – but not much – over Chris Gallagher, who rises one place to second after picking up 47 points last night.

Owen Barron falls from second to third place – 10 points off the top. All three of the leading men in the league crossed the line within two seconds of one another last night – Cat B is still all up for grabs.

WOMEN’S CAT B

A win for 3D TC’s Beata Kis last night sees her shoot from fourth to first in the league leaderboard! Previous leader Elaine Lally moves into second and Kerry McGrillen into third. There’s nothing in it, with just five points separating the trio it could all change again next week!

WOMEN’S CAT B CLUB COMPETITION

Lanesboro lead the team competition with 3D Triathlon moving into second thanks to the efforts of Beata Kis, Round 4 race winner. Olympian TC hold third.

MEN’S CAT B CLUB COMPETITION

For what is in effect a two man team, Tri an Mhí (aka Quinton Burke and Kevin Feely) are performing extraordinarily well with their haul of 355 points over four rounds. They remain top of the Men’s Cat B club competition ahead of Tri Limits (326 points) who have managed to bring more riders but haven’t made their numerical advantage count just yet.

With just one rider lining out (step forward Darren Lagan) last night, Omagh increase their total marginally – they stay in third however.

CAT C RESULTS

MEN’S CAT C

Things are very tight in the Men’s Cat C competition. Gearoid Taylor (Boru TC) remains on top of the league but after being outsprinted by Brian Baker last night, he sees his lead cut from 10 to eight points. Taylor now has a total of 184 with Baker `on 176.

Michael Sullivan crossed the line less than one second behind Taylor and Baker for 10th place and moves in to third overall on 161 points. As we head to the mid point of WattFest21, this particular league still anyone’s to win.

WOMEN’S CAT C

Louse Mulvaney has extended her lead at the top of the large C league field to 10 points with another win at last night’s round four road race. Omagh’s Lucy McDermott and Lanesboro’s Roberta Hanly are second and third.

There are a number to watch with a race in hand however. Omagh’s Helen Howe and Cathy Cunningham are sitting in fourth and fifth having completed three of the four rounds.

WOMEN’S CAT C CLUB COMPETITION

It’s no surprise that Omagh TC still top the C League Club competition.

Three riders inside the top five of the league will mean their tally will pose hard to beat in the coming weeks. Lanesboro TC are currently second and Olympian TC third.

MEN’S CAT C CLUB COMPETITION

A four strong Lanesboro team of Michael Sullivan, Brendan O’Sullivan, Sean Farrell and Thomas Conneally maintains the club’s grip on the Cat C club competition. Their total of 643 point is impressive and provides them with a sizeable lead over second placed Cork Tri who picked up 71 points last night.

Belpark overtake TriLimits and move in to third on 315. That’s only 15 points behind Cork but also just 15 ahead of TriLimits and Boru TC – with these margins, we could be looking at big changes next week.

CAT D RESULTS

MEN’S CAT D

It’s still tight in Men’s Cat D, even though last night’s racing was anything but with Stephen Smyth (3D) winning by quite a margin. With only three races to his record thus far however, Smyth remains back in 5th overall and the top three of Niall Byrne (Pulse TC), Michael Feeney (Blackwater TC) and Paul Henry (Tri Limits) remain unchanged.

That said, there are only 11 points between Byrne and Feeney and then a gap of just 16 back to Henry, who was the best of the top three on Watopia’s Figure 8 course last night. This is going to be an interesting league as the rounds tick on.

WOMEN’S CAT D

Louise McGirl still leads the D League on 207 points with Omagh’s Elaine Mallaghan in second on 191.

This week saw the race winners rewarded with big moves up the leader board, and Gemma Skeath is one of those riders. A five second win in Watopia over Louise McGirl means that Omagh TC member Skeath now moves into third in the league. It will be interesting to see how this unfolds over the next few weeks as Skeath has only completed three of the four rounds so will have a race in hand.

WOMEN’S CAT D CLUB COMPETITION

Things at the top of the D League Club Competition remain unchanged with TriLimits holding their lead thanks to strong performances and their large number of riders. Omagh still hold second on 369 points and Lanesboro third on 184 points.

MEN’S CAT D CLUB COMPETITION

TriLimits stay top of the Men’s D Club competition, adding 93 points to their tally. The real battle looks to be between Pulse, currently second on 212 points, and `Blackwater, just 11 points back. Both clubs could rocket up the rankings with the addition of some more riders – can they mount a talent search?

ISSUES OR MISSING RESULTS

Unlike previous Triathlon Ireland leagues, WattFest is 100pc contained on the Zwift and ZwiftPower platforms which means the league table calculations are automatically derived from the race results.

If you don’t see yourself on the league table, your first port of call should be to check the Zwift Power FAQs and then the ZwiftPower support desk (at the bottom of the FAQ page).

Triathlon Ireland doesn’t have the ability to reverse or edit race results but if you have a question you can’t find the answer to by all means email us and we’ll do our best to help.

If you were ‘filtered’ from any of the races it will have been for a technical reason which again, Triathlon Ireland doesn’t have the power to override. We know getting DQ’d can be frustrating and sometimes not even within the control of the rider.

Here’s a run down of the main reasons a rider will find themselves ‘filtered’ out of the results.
