WattFest Round 1 Results

WattFest Wednesday Begins
The clock has gone back, the dark nights are here and the temperature has dropped – it can only mean one thing – it’s Zwift Racing season!
More than 300 riders lined up across the women’s and men’s WattFest races last night for a very short, very sharp trip through the streets of Bologna before tackling the 2km, 10% climb to San Luca. We haven’t done it in real life but it’s been a regular feature now on every Triathlon Ireland Zwift league and is a cruelly exacting test of pacing – go too hard too soon and things can fall apart on those painfully slow few hundred metres before the finish line.
Results
Our race reports focus on Triathlon Ireland members or riders who are attached to Triathlon Ireland clubs. If you are a member and we’ve missed you in our round up of the top positions, just drop us a line and we’ll be happy to include you in future.
The results of the race and league individual and club categories can both be found on ZwiftPower – if you don’t see yourself listed, scroll down to the bottom of this page where we have some tips that might answer your query.

Round 2
We’ve got another familiar course lined up for Round 2 of WattFest – the flat streets and savage hills of the Richmond UCI circuit.
Entries are open!
Women’s Cat A
BMW Triathlon National Series regulars took the top spots on the first week of the Cat A Women’s WattFest. Waterford’s Nicola Kehoe and TriLimits TC’s Helen Perry (fourth in the 2021 #BMWTriSeries) battled it out on the TT course with Kehoe coming out the eventual winner by just 7 seconds. Allyson Hurst and Belpark’s Ciara Bradley hold third and fourth respectively after Week One.
Men’s Cat A
The winner of the Winter-Spring League 2021 Enda Bagnall showed he hasn’t let his watts drop over the summer as he powered to top spot in the men’s A cat league table. Bagnall has some competition to contend with however – just one second behind him on last night’s course was young gun Jack Kennedy who looks to be carrying his fine form from the BMW Triathlon National Series indoors for the winter. North West TC’s Stephen Mulberry also had an incredibly strong TT last night and starts Round 2 in third on the men’s A cat league table.
Women’s Cat B
The ever competitive Women’s B League saw some familiar names returning to race. With over twenty seconds on her nearest competitor, the ever consistent Mary Corless from TriLakes TC came home first. In second, Susan O’Neill from Tri Limits put in a quick 19:05 for second. Featuring on podiums in the A, B and D league this week, TriLimits is well represented throughout!
Beáta Kis from 3D TC was third on the night in 20:50.
Men’s Cat B
Just a few weeks after lining out for TriTeam Ireland at the European Championships in Valencia, Owen Barron claimed top spot in the Men’s B Cat league with a 17mins 22sec performance on the Bologna course.
Behind him Declan Byrne and Chris Gallagher headed up a big field of racers and occupy second and third places on the league table with Mark Kenny (Lanesborough TC) in 4th place.
Women’s Cat C
The biggest category of the night was the C Cat, and Omagh TC took two of the top four placings. Omagh’s Lucy McDermott is the first race winner of this year’s league. Louise Mulvaney and Anna Lawther complete the podium of the C Cat. One of the most competitive categories of the last Zwift league, it will be interesting to see who takes on the challenge and earns points in the coming weeks.
Men’s Cat C
Tritanium’s Ross Lacey took the maximum 61 points last night thanks to his 19min 53secs traverse of the Bologna course. Adam Lovett from Mako TC was just three seconds further back and goes in to second place in rhe Men’s C Cat league table. Tom Soden from Belpark was the best of the rest in what has historically been an extremely competitive category.
Women’s Cat D
It was a TriLimits one, two in the D League with Alison Farquhar taking the top spot and Sarah Halliday in second. Louise McGirl was 17 seconds behind Halliday on the TT course for third.
That’s just the first week of racing done, there’s plenty of time to get your club involved in the league and challenge for the top spots! See you next time
Men’s Cat D
After only his third race on ZwiftPower, Mark Mag from Down TC sits on top of the men’s D Cat League ahead of two experienced racers in the form of Blackwater TC’s Michael Feeney and Niall Byrne from Pulse Tri Club.
Issues or Missing Results
Unlike previous Triathlon Ireland leagues, WattFest is 100pc contained on the Zwift and ZwiftPower platforms which means the league table calculations are automatically derived from the race results.
If you don’t see yourself on the league table, your first port of call should be to check the Zwift Power FAQs and then the ZwiftPower support desk (at the bottom of the FAQ page).
Triathlon Ireland doesn’t have the ability to reverse or edit race results but if you have a question you can’t find the answer to by all means email us and we’ll do our best to help.
If you were ‘filtered’ from any of the races it will have been for a technical reason which again, Triathlon Ireland doesn’t have the power to override. We know getting DQ’d can be frustrating and sometimes not even within the control of the rider.
Here’s a run down of the main reasons a rider will find themselves ‘filtered’ out of the results.
