Wilson The Early Leader in BMW Duathlon National Series
With the first two rounds of the BMW Duathlon National Series completed, the women’s and men’s competitions are beginning to take shape.
Wilson Leads Women’s Series
In the women’s series, defending series champion Ciara Wilson has made it two victories from two outings and leads the rankings on 1400 points. Following a 4th place finish at last weekend’s Athy Flat Out Duathlon and third senior over the line at the Galco Naas Duathlon, Jennifer O’Sullivan holds second place on 1152 points.
Current third placed athlete Dympna Kelly lies just 128 points further back after finishing 5th at both of her two races.
Wilson won last weekend’s Athy Flat Out Duathlon by just 25 secs from Barbara Dunne with Olivia McCartin in third a further 29secs back. Both Dunne and McCartin only have one race in the series completed thus far and will be certain to register high in the standings as the duathlon season continues.
Men’s BMW Duathlon Series
The men’s series could not be tighter with Daryl Kearns and Marc Flavin trading places in the opening rounds to lie tied on 1375.5 points a piece.
Flavin opened his account with by scoring maximum points as he won Galco Naas Duathlon with Kearns in second. Last weekend it was Kearns’ turn as he edged out Flavin by 18 seconds for race victory and maximum points at Athy Flat Out Duathlon.
Emmet Kelly lies in third place on 1152 points thanks to a third place finish last weekend and a fourth place at Naas.
BMW Junior Duathlon National Series
In the junior series, Conor Coleman leads on 1347 points with two races in the bag ahead of Sabian Kulczynski, Jack Lupton and Alexander McDonald – all of whom have only once race completed thus far. The junior women’s category is also still in its formative state with Ella Doherty and Emma Boyle tied on 700 points with one race to their rankings thus far followed by Eve Furlong and Roisin McElligott.
