The Year in Review: BMW Duathlon National Series
The 2019 BMW Duathlon National Series – eight races to decide the country’s best duathletes! This year’s series started in January with the first Galco Naas Duathlon and ended at Belpark Triathlon Club’s Phoenix Park Duathlon on 27th April. Over 700 athletes hit the start line to run, bike, run against the best in their age group with Becky Woods and Daryl Kearns winning this year’s series.
In the BMW Duathlon National Series, scoring is based off an athlete’s best two series results plus the Duathlon National Championships held this year at Sligo Duathlon.
We review the men’s and women’s series below and list all of the Age Group podium athletes from 20-24 right up to 60-64. Everyone on this list will be honoured at the Triathlon Ireland Annual Awards in the Conrad Hotel, Dublin on November 23rd.
Tickets are on sale now – don’t delay – this event sells out quickly!
Woods wins
Becky Woods has had a memorable second season in multisport, winning the women’s BMW Duathlon National Series and finishing third in this year’s BMW Triathlon National Series. A win at Phoenix Park Duathlon and seconds at the Duathlon National Champs and the Battle of Ballinspittle secured this year’s series for Woods. Incredibly, this year’s Duathlon National Championships in Sligo was Becky Woods’ first duathlon!
Claiming third in this year’s Duathlon National Champs aided Barbara Dunne in taking second spot in this year’s BMW National Duathlon Series. A win in Ballinspittle and second at the Athy Flat Out Duathlon rounded out Dunne’s season.
Ciara Wilson had the most wins in the series, topping the podium at Athy Flat Out Duathlon, the first Galco Naas Duathlon and at the Eirgen Tramore Duathlon. Fourth place in this year’s National Champs earned Wilson 791.453 points and third place in this year’s women’s BMW Duathlon National Series.

Daryl Kearns wins men’s BMW DUATHlon national series
The 2019 men’s BMW Duathlon Series was ultimately decided at the Duathlon National Championships in Sligo. Tried & Tested TC clubmates Daryl Kearns and Marc Flavin each had a win and a second place heading into the championship race. The pair had alternated podium spots at Athy Flat Out Duathlon, where Kearns won and Galco Naas Duathlon, where Flavin won.
Daryl Kearns finished fourth at the Duathlon National Championships and Marc Flavin sixth, meaning that Kearns secured enough points to take the win in this year’s BMW Duathlon National Series.
Wicklow Triathlon Club’s Brendan Buck finished third in this year’s series. Buck’s best result came when finishing second in a competitive field at the Phoenix Park Duathlon, the last race of the series. An early season top ten finish at the Galco Naas Duathlon and 13th at the National Championships completed Brendan’s points tally after a busy duathlon season – six of the eight races in this year’s BMW Duathlon National Series.
