National Events Round-Up: 14th/15th July 2018
National Aquabike Championships – Moby Dick Aquavelo
South Coast Triathlon Club hosted this year’s Aquabike National Championships at the Moby Dick Aquavelo in Youghal on Sunday, 15th July. Sebastian Helka and Deirdre Casey became 2018 National Champions on the standard distance course with Trevor Woods and Katie Cooke claiming silver medals. John O’Connell and Arron Fox were in bronze position in the men’s and women’s race respectively.

Two Provinces Triathlon
The second round of the 2018 Super Series and the seventh round of the BMW Triathlon National Series took place at Lanesboro Tri Club’s Two Provinces Triathlon on Saturday, 14th July. Over four hundred athletes raced across the draft legal Super Series race, the BMW Triathlon National Series sprint distance race, aquabike and try-a-tri.
Teenager Erin McConnell won the women’s Super Series race while the men’s race was won by Darren Dunne. In the BMW Triathlon National Series, Becky Woods and Conor Tiernan took home the honours. See below for the race reports from each race.

DUNNE AND MCCONNELL WIN TWO PROVINCES SUPER SERIES
Hardman Middle Distance Triathlon
In Kerry, Hardman Middle Distance Triathlon took place in Waterville. Last year’s National Middle Distance Champion Charles Maltha and silver medallist at the 2018 National Standard Distance Champs, Ellen Murphy, were the winners.
Brian Sexton and Aileen Flynn came second in the men’s and women’s races with Edwin Sutton and Naomi Shinkins third.
Ballybay Triathlon, Monaghan
Muckno Triathlon Club hosted both sprint and standard distances as part of their Ballybay Triathlon, held on Saturday, 14 July. In the sprint distance race, Gretta O Connor and Aodhagan O Reilly were the winners. In the standard distance triathlon, Sheena Dullaghan and Mark Farquhar came home first.

VGraph KTC Triathlon
Kilkenny Triathlon Club’s popular V-Graph KTC Triathlon took place in the city on Sunday, 15th July. The sprint distance triathlon was won by Niamh Richardson and Paul Ogle.
Tribesman Triathlon
Sprint, Standard and Middle Distance races were on offer for athletes at Tribesman Triathlon in Galway City on Saturday, 14th July. Organised by Galway Triathlon Club, the unique grounds of NUIG played host to the event.
The sprint race was won by Aidan Kelly and Niamh Staunton. In the standard distance, Ciara Brady and Gareth Jooste took the spoils. Martin Divilly and Mary Corless won the middle distance triathlon.
