Lazzari Claims World Champs Bronze
Tojo Lazzari was the best of the Irish on day one of the Rotterdam Triathlon Grand Final as he claimed a superb bronze medal in the open paratriathlon PTS4 Final.
Lazzari posted the quickest run split of the day and the second quickest bike split of the to climb on to the podium at the culmination of the triathlon season in the Netherlands.
A delayed first day of the Grand Final saw six Irish athletes race across five events in Rotterdam. First up was Aidan McGlynn in the Men’s Elite PTS5 event where he finished 11th. Next up were the open events, where Donncha McCarthy and David Kerr both finished 4th in the PTVI and PTWC categories respectively.
Later in the day there was disappointment however for Con Doherty and Chris Mintern who competed in the Elite U23 final.
After a great start which saw him up with the leaders, Mintern punctured and was forced to retire.
Doherty also retired during the bike leg in what will have been a disappointing end to a superb season.
