2017 Reviewed – Aquabike National Championship
What is aquabike?
A relative newcomer to the Multisport family, Aquabike is certainly growing in popularity with 6 events on the TI calendar in 2017. This included the National Championships which were held at the Dublin City Triathlon in August.
This is the third year that Triathlon Ireland have run sanctioned Aquabike events and they are growing in popularity. The Aquabike event is the swim and cycle portion of the triathlon and therefore can be suited to those who are unable to run due to injury, or simply for those who (for one reason or another), do not favour the run section.
The course for this new event is over Olympic distance – a 1500m swim in the liffey and a 40km bike route along the same course as the triathlon.
The results
John Howlett and Siobhan Forman were the winners and crowned Aquabike National Champions for 2017. Philip Castles and Shannon Kelly took home the silver medals while Bjorn Ludick and Dee Needham claimed bronze.
