Triathlon National Series 2022: The Clubs!

We had hilly in scenic locations like Waterville, Kenmare and Downings. We had flat and fast for National Champs in Tyrone and Rosslare. We had epic swims in places like Kilkee, Ballyhass, Cobh, Valentia, The Liffey, Castlewellan and Hazelwood to name just a few. There were first time winners shooting their shot and Olympians taking home national titles. But most of all there was craic, friendship, camaraderie, achievement and through it all a love for triathlon shone bright.

This was the 2022 Triathlon National Series.

Piranha Triathlon Club’s Megan Roberts (pictured above) was the top points scorer for her team of six, and her impressive individual fourth added greatly to the team total of 2607.839 to earn them the 2022 title. Age Group podium regulars Vanessa Fenton and Danielle O’Riordan also added to the tally as did Kona bound Siobhan Forman. Fiona Nelson and Lauren Hughes were the final points scorers for the winning team.

There’s strength in numbers, and Pulse Triathlon Club certainly had a huge number of women racing this season. Podium regulars and big points scorers Aine Kelly and Clare Dillon were fourth and fifth in the Middle Distance National Champs, just twenty seconds separated the team mates!
Esther Bayon, Máire Diggin, Jo Lynch and Deborah Carr completed the team from Pulse.

Aoife Reilly led Belpark’s effort to score club points in this year’s Triathlon National Series, with regular Age Group placings and consistent results across her season. Isabelle Cairns, Helen French, Ava Whelan, Andrea Brennan and Gunda Albert were the other Belpark points scorers, securing third overall for the Dublin Club.

Cork Triathlon Club finished almost 50 points ahead of the rest thanks in part to the massive efforts of regular race winners and podium finishers Donncha Kiely, Trevor Woods and Kevin Curran. John O’Connell, Edward O’Mahony and Neil Creedon all succeeded in completing the series with all important points to count, giving the men’s team at Cork TC the win on 2753.696.

Consistency across the series for Belpark saw them finish second in this year’s series on 2706.887 points. Luke McMullan had his first ever overall win early in the season to win Bolands BMW Hook or by Crook, and Alex Van Buttingha Wichers had his first win at Base2Race Harbourman, followed by a number of podiums throughout the season. Colm O’Gorman, Shane O Neill, Adriele Prina-Mello and William Stafford completed the points total.

Eoin Nagle was the leading points scorer for his Naas Triathlon Club team with his points coming from third place at Hook or by Crook and top ten finishes on the rest of his outings. The Naas TC team finished just 19 points from second. The team of Eoin Nagle, Fergus O’Toole, Matthew Carroll, Conor Farrell, Mark Dowling and Barry Moran completed on 2681.703 points.

Piranha Triathlon Club are the 2022 mixed team winners of the Triathlon National Series. Having three team members inside the top ten of their respective series went a long way to secure the points necessary, finishing over 90 points ahead of second placed Naas Triathlon Club. Belpark Triathlon Club were third on 2680.314.

CORRECTIONS/QUERIES

Thousands of athletes have raced the Triathlon National Series in 2022 and from time to time omissions or errors in results, or membership status issues require ranking re-calculations.

Following this deadline, the Triathlon National Series tables will be considered final.

The TI Awards are back! For the first time since 2019, we will be celebrating the annual awards in person. Put it in the diary for Saturday, 12th November in the Alex Hotel, Dublin 2.
