Lough Lannagh School’s Splash & Dash
Triathlon Ireland in collaboration with Mayo Sports Partnership held our annual Splash and Dash in Lough Lannagh on the 25th of March 2025. This is the fourth year of the event and each year it goes from strength to strength. There were 16 schools represented with over 450 primary school students taking part. The students come from schools all over the county and are from 3rd – 6th class. The event consists of a 150m pool swim, a quick transition from swim to run and a run around the Lough Lannagh Leisure centre and park crossing the lake bridge of the Lough Lannagh to a turn around point, covering a distance of approximately 1.5km. There were 3 waves with approximately 150 students per wave. Each school completed their event together, and wore their school jersey. There was a steady flow of swimmers and runners throughout each wave.
This event is delivered in association with the Triathlon Ireland School’s programme. Our Tri Heroes school programme allows each school to individually sample or sport and the Splash and Dash event allows the school communities to come together to take part in our sport. Tri Heroes is a 5 week programme delivered by TI community coaches and Mayo SP’s tutors across the county.
It primarily includes cycling, running and transition skills, culminating in a mini duathlon (run-cycle-run) event on the last day. For this programme the students need access to bikes and helmets whereas for the Splash and Dash event they require swim gear including hat and goggles and running gear. For more information or to book a Tri Heroes, Tri Heroes Mini or Splash and Dash for your school please contact Mary@triathlonireland.com. We have collaborated with other Sports Partnerships, Cork, Kerry and Cavan to mention a few to deliver Splash and Dash events.
