Tri Leader
The Tri Leader Course is the first step on the Coaching Ladder. It is suitable for those who would like to become triathlon coaches, and also for those who would like to help out at their club training sessions.
Entry Requirements
Triathlon Ireland member (club training membership)
Over 18 years of age.
Duration
8 hours
Format
Course can be run in two formats
Blended format:
This is run over three sessions:
Two evenings sessions run online using Zoom (4 hours total)
Four hours practical face to face (4 Hours)
The practical can be run in an evening or morning session.
Face to Face Format:
This is run over one day with 4 hours theory and 4 hours practical
Cost
€70 pp
Group rate available for clubs.
Modules
Session 1:
Role of the Tri Leader, safety principles and communication
Session 2:
Overview of safeguarding and introduction to planning and delivering sessions.
Session 3:
Practical coaching session.
Course Objectives
By the end of this course the attendees should be able to:
- Have an understanding of their remit in their club.
- Identify the key safety requirements for setting up a safe session.
- Begin to feel competent to risk assess an enclosed training session and assist a coach in risk management.
- Identify where to find key safeguarding information and who safeguarding contacts are.
- Plan a basic session and deliver a part of a session.
- Start to consider their coaching philosophy and how to create a positive athlete environment
Tri Leader Remit
- A Tri Leader can organise and set up any adult session and lead enclosed sessions (not open road or open water).
- Can organise, set up and lead any junior sessions in an enclosed area (cannot set up or lead on open road or open water).
- A Tri Leader should be supported to ensure ratios are met for junior sessions.
- All sessions must be run in compliance with the TI safety Guidelines:

Certification
In addition to attending the course a Tri Leader must complete the following to obtain their certificate:
- Safeguarding 1/ Safeguarding Children and Young People in Sport course
- First Aid Course
- Code of Conduct
- If coaching under 18’s or vulnerable adults: Garda Vetting or Access NI
