In light of the Government’s announcement yesterday evening, moving the Republic of Ireland to Level 3 of the National Framework for Living with Covid-19 from midnight on Tuesday the sixth of October, Galco Naas Duathlon will be unable to take place as planned this weekend.

Under Level 3 restrictions, no matches or other sporting events should take place, with the exception of professional, elite, inter-county, and senior club championship, which should all take place behind closed doors.

The Race Organising Committee at Naas Triathlon Club have worked hard over the last number of months to try to ensure a safe race for everyone, but will now move their focus to 2021. As Maxine Strain, Race Director with Naas Triathlon Club outlined;

"The Committee and members of Naas Triathlon Club have been committed to making this duathlon happen in light of the lack of races this season. Triathlon Ireland have been on hand throughout to support and advise us during preparations and we would like to acknowledge the role they have played in guiding clubs and athletes during this pandemic. It is unfortunate that the race will now not go ahead due to restrictions, but is in the best interests of all involved. We look forward to welcoming athletes to our races in 2021."

All athletes will receive a refund of their race entry, and those who purchased One Day Licences will also be refunded. Once refunds are processed, each athlete will receive an email confirming the transaction.

Galco Naas Duathlon is the only race to be affected by yesterday’s announcement. Download the Return to Club Training Protocol here for all the details on what Level 3 means for Triathlon Ireland members’ training.
