Triathlon Ireland (TI) is the national governing body for the sport of Triathlon, Duathlon and Aquathlon in Ireland, affiliated to the International Triathlon Union (ITU) and the European Triathlon Union(ETU). Our main responsibility is for promoting and sanctioning triathlon related events throughout Ireland, aid and develop our athletes, from Novice to Elite and grow this relatively new sport in Ireland.

History of the sport in Ireland

When/how the Sport came to Ireland?
The first Triathlon in Ireland was held in Greystones Co. Wicklow in 1983. Gerry Kelly was the organizer and it was run in the order of Bike run Swim. Michael Smith a top Irish cyclist at the time won the event.

When the NGB was founded?
Irish Triathlon Association was founded in 1984

When the first National Championships were held?
Greystones Co. Wicklow 1983
