Qualification Criteria for Age Group Athletes

Ireland has been allocated 20 places per five year age group. These places for each age group will be allocated on the following basis:


  • To be eligible for selection you must fulfil the eligibility criteria and have submitted a complete application and paid any stipulated fees by the closing date.

  • Any final fee must be paid by the deadline.

  • Any late applications, either forms, documentation, or fees will be considered at Triathlon Ireland's discretion.

  • The selection period commences on 1nd January 2010 and ends on 19st March 2010.

  • The route to gaining selection is detailed below.

  • Acceptance of the offer of a place must be done in writing. Once you have declined a place the place will be offered to another, and will not be subsequently available to you.

  • All decisions for selection races will be taken from the official results, as supplied to Triathlon Ireland by the respective race. Any results will be subject to official Triathlon Ireland rules, and any time penalties, or other penalties, applied by the race officials.

  • Age Group is determined by the Competitor's age as of December 31st in the year of competition.

Irish athletes based outside of the Island of Ireland

  • This route will only be open to five athletes who have a membership address outside of Ireland for the majority of the qualification period.

  • Applications for this method must be received with the appropriate fee by 25th February 2010.

  • Application must be made by supplying full results, and course description (including any available profiles and some photos), from up to three standard distance races that the applicant has completed during the qualification period. These races must be sanctioned by another ITU affiliated National Governing Body.

  • Proof of residence outside Ireland during the qualification period should also be provided.

  • Applications for this qualification route will be accepted up to the end of the qualification period 25th February 2010).

  • The opportunity to represent Ireland will be offered on merit, as decided by Triathlon Ireland, and based on the results submitted.

  • Any offers will be made at the end of the qualification period, and must be confirmed by completing any documentation and paying any required fees within twenty one days of the offer letter date.

  • Any unallocated places will be offered on a rolling basis to the next best placed athletes, who must then confirm their place by completing any documentation and paying any required fees within two weeks of the date of the offer letter.

            Qualification Criteria for Age Group Athletes

            Ireland has been allocated 20 places per five year age group. These places for each age group will be allocated on the following basis:

            • To be eligible for selection you must fulfil the eligibility criteria and have submitted a complete application and paid any stipulated fees by the closing date.

      • This route will only be open to five athletes who have a membership address outside of Ireland for the majority of the qualification period.

      • Applications for this method must be received with the appropriate fee by 8th March 2010.

      • Application must be made by supplying full results, and course description (including any available profiles and some photos), from up to three standard distance races that the applicant has completed during the qualification period. These races must be sanctioned by another ITU affiliated National Governing Body.

      • Proof of residence outside Ireland during the qualification period should also be provided.

      • Applications for this qualification route will be accepted up to the end of the qualification period (8th March 2010).

      • The opportunity to represent Ireland will be offered on merit, as decided by Triathlon Ireland, and based on the results submitted.

      • Any offers will be made at the end of the qualification period, and must be confirmed by completing any documentation and paying any required fees within twenty one days of the offer letter date.

      • Any unallocated places will be offered on a rolling basis to the next best placed athletes, who must then confirm their place by completing any documentation and paying any required fees within two weeks of the date of the offer letter.

        Eligibility

              To be eligible to race for Ireland as an age group athlete you must satisfy the criteria below:

              You must satisfy both of:

              1. You must not have raced for another Triathlon Federation in the last year;

              2. You must be a Triathlon Ireland member when applying for a place and during the year of the race.

              In addition, you must satisfy one of the criteria below:

              1. Be an Irish passport holder;

              2. Be born on the island of Ireland or;

              3. Be resident on the island of Ireland.

              Proof that you satisfy one of the above criteria must be sent in with your application. You should send in either:

              1. A photo copy of the photo page of your passport or;

              2. A photo copy of your birth certificate or;

              3. A copy of a utility bill, or bank statement, showing your address. This bill must have been issued within the last three months.

                Application Procedure

                1. Application is open to athletes eligible to race on the Triathlon Ireland team (see Eligibility Criteria on Application form).

                2. Application is open to athletes currently holding Full, Student and Junior membership for 2009 of Triathlon Ireland.

                3. Application Forms incorrectly completed, illegible, or without the accompanying application fee and documentation will not be considered for selection.

                4. The completed application form must be received in the Triathlon Ireland office along with the correct fee and documentation, by the 'application closing date' to be considered for selection. Please do not email your application form as this will not be accepted. You must post your application form with your fee and relevant documentation.

                Nomination of Triathlon Ireland athletes to the Race Organising committee

                1. All qualifying athletes who have paid the race entry fee and Application Fee in full will be nominated to the event.

                2. Age Group athletes need to ensure that they comply with the applicable ITU regulations.

                3. No athlete will be nominated to compete on a Triathlon Ireland team if there are monies outstanding.

                4. Athletes not nominated by Triathlon Ireland cannot compete in these events, on the Triathlon Ireland team, under any circumstances.

                NOTE:
                Team Fee:
                Triathlon Ireland is not in a position to be able to cover the costs of sending teams to World and European Championships. There will be an additional team fee on top of the €20 application fee. This fee will be announced after the selection period.

                Application Fee: The €20 application fee is non-refundable.

                Triathlon Ireland have held accommodation for age group racers at the Shamrock Lodge in Athlone for the European Triathlon Championships in 2010. This is where the Triathlon Ireland Team Managers and elite team will be based during the weekend of racing.
