Application Procedure

  1. Application is open to athletes eligible to race on the Triathlon Ireland team (see Eligibility Criteria below).

  2. Application is open to athletes currently holding Full, Student and Junior membership for 2008 of Triathlon Ireland.

  3. Return the completed Application Form to TI Administrator with 20euro Application Fee (per event applied for)

  4. Application Forms incorrectly completed, illegible, or without the accompanying Application Fee will be returned and will not be considered a valid application.

Selection Events

  • After the close of initial applications on March 21st applicants will be informed within one week of selection decision. Obtaining entry into the Selection Race is the responsibility of the applicant including paying any entry fees and meeting any cut-off dates that may apply.

  • If a Selection Race takes place for a given event, the qualifying athletes from that Selection Race and the lottery for the remaining places will be announced on the following day.

Nomination of Triathlon Ireland athletes to the Race Organising committee

  • All qualifying athletes who have paid the race entry fee and Application Fee in full will be nominated to the event.

  • Age Group athletes need to ensure that they comply with the applicable ITU regulations.

  • No athlete will be nominated to compete on a Triathlon Ireland team if there are monies outstanding.

  • Athletes not nominated by Triathlon Ireland cannot compete in these events, on the Triathlon Ireland team, under any circumstances.


Eligibility Criteria for Age Group Athletes 2008

The following Eligibility Criteria must be met in order to represent Triathlon Ireland Internationally at AGE GROUP level:

  1. Athletes must be an possess an Irish passport or be eligible to race for Northern Ireland (proof required).

  2. Athletes must be a Full, Student or Junior Member of Triathlon Ireland at the time of application and at the time of competition.

  3. Athletes holding or legally entitled to hold dual citizenship (including Ireland) may not have raced for the National Triathlon Federation of another country for a period of three years prior to the current year.


Qualification Criteria for Age Group Athletes 2008

Age Group is determined by the Competitor's age as of December 31st in the year of competition.

The qualification of applicants on the application cut-off date will be decided in the follow manner:

  • Where there is a qualification criteria, and there are fewer applicants than race places, then all applicants will be nominated to participate in that Age Group by TI.

  • Where there is a qualification criteria, and there are more applicants than race places, then athletes will qualify in order of highest ranked finish time in the criteria race, where two or more races are mentioned in the criteria then equal places will be given to each race.

  • If an athlete did not race one of the qualification criteria races then they should give evidence of a similar standard from another race, this race must have been sanctioned by another ITU affiliated NGB, and the results must be verifiable.

  • Where there are fewer applicants than race places, and no qualification criteria, in an Age Group then any eligible athletes will be nominated to participate in that Age Group by TI.

Withdrawing athletes.

Where an athletes withdraws from the team having been selected they will forfeit the application fee.

Non-qualifying athletes.

If an athlete has applied for a place and is unsuccessful in gaining selection then their application fee will be refunded.
