Qualification Criteria

Ireland has been allocated 20 places per five year age group for each race.

Eligibility as detailed below.

The route to gaining selection is detailed in the table under each individual race.

Eligibility

To be eligible to race for Ireland as an age group athlete you must satisfy the criteria below:

  1. You must not have raced for another Triathlon Federation in the last year;
  2. You must be a Triathlon Ireland member when applying for a place and during the year of the race.
  3. Have submitted an online application and paid application fee by close date (see closing dates for race you are applying for).
  4. Any race entry/team manager fee must be paid by the deadline (to be confirmed by Triathlon Ireland closer to the race date). 
  5. Any late applications, supporting documentation or fees will be considered at Triathlon Ireland's discretion.
  6. Age Group is determined by the Competitor's age as of December 31st in the year of competition. 
  7. Acceptance of the offer of a place must be done in writing (email is sufficient). If you do not confirm your place, or if you decline a place, then your place will be offered to another applicant, and will not be subsequently available to you. 
  8. All decisions for selection races will be taken from the official results, as supplied to Triathlon Ireland by the respective race. Any results will be subject to official Triathlon Ireland rules, and any time penalties, or other penalties, applied by the race officials.
  9. Satisfy one of the criteria below:- 
    • Be an Irish passport holder (* proof of passport)  or;
    • Be born on the island of Ireland or be resident on the island of Ireland (* proof of birth certificate or utility bill/bank statement showing your address - bill must have been issued within the last three months).

* Proof that you satisfy one of the above criteria must be sent to the Triathlon Ireland office after you have completed your online application.  Your application will not be processed until this is received.

Application Procedure

Application Procedure

  1. Application is open to all athletes eligible to race on the Triathlon Ireland team (see Eligibility Criteria above).
  2. Application is open to athletes currently holding membership for 2011 of Triathlon Ireland.
  3. Application Forms incorrectly completed, or without the accompanying application fee and documentation will not be considered for selection.
  4. To be considered for selection, your completed application form must be submitted online, application fee paid online (at time of submitting application) and supporting documentation to be received in the Triathlon Ireland office, by 5pm on the day of the 'application closing date'. Supporting documentation can be emailed to selection@triathlonireland.com, but these must be emailed by 5pm on the application closing date.  If sending supporting documentation by post, this must be received in the Triathlon Ireland office by 5pm on the application closing date.  Please allow plenty of time for postage or send by registered post for guaranteed delivery.  Triathlon Ireland are not responsible for delays of post being delivered.

 

Application Form

All applications in 2011 will be taken via an online entry system.  To submit an application, you must be a member of Triathlon Ireland in 2011 and will require your username/password to log into your membership details.  There you will be able to submit an online application form.

We ask that you don't submit a hard copy application form from 2010, as this will be returned to you and you will be asked to complete the online application.

 

Nomination of Triathlon Ireland athletes to the Race Organising committee

  1. All qualifying athletes who have paid the race entry fee and Application Fee in full will be nominated to the event.
  2. Age Group athletes need to ensure that they comply with the applicable ITU regulations.
  3. No athlete will be nominated to compete on a Triathlon Ireland team if there are monies outstanding.
  4. Athletes not nominated by Triathlon Ireland cannot compete in these events, on the Triathlon Ireland team, under any circumstances.

TI Sanctioned Race

  • the highest placed applicants (from the 'no. of available places'), of applications received, per five year age group in the event will be offered selection, and will have twenty one days from the date of the offer letter to accept the places and complete their application, including paying any required fees.
  • If less than the number of available places are taken up then the remainder will be offered on a rolling basis to the next best placed athletes, who must then confirm their place by completing any documentation and paying any required fees within two weeks of the date of the offer letter.
  • Any unallocated places will be put into a selection pool for allocation later.

 

Triathlon Ireland National Series 2010

  • the highest placed applicants (from the 'no. of available places'), of applications received, per five year age group in the event will be offered selection, and will have twenty one days from the date of the offer letter to accept the places and complete their application, including paying any required fees.
  • If less than the number of available places are taken up then the remainder will be offered on a rolling basis to the next best placed athletes, who must then confirm their place by completing any documentation and paying any required fees within two weeks of the date of the offer letter.
  • Any unallocated places will be put into a selection pool for allocation later.

 

Irish Athletes Based Outside of Ireland

  • This route will only be open to athletes who have a membership address outside of Ireland for the majority of the qualification period.
  • Application must be made by supplying full results, and course description (including any available profiles and some photos), from up to three standard distance races that the applicant has completed during the qualification period. These races must be sanctioned by another ITU affiliated National Governing Body.
  • Proof of residence outside Ireland during the qualification period should also be provided.
  • The opportunity to represent Ireland will be offered on merit, as decided by Triathlon Ireland, and based on the results submitted.
  • Any unallocated places will be offered on a rolling basis to the next best placed athletes, who must then confirm their place by completing any documentation and paying any required fees within two weeks of the date of the offer letter.
  • Any unallocated places will be put into a selection pool for allocation later.

 

Selection Pool

  • Any places in the selection pool, will be allocated to any remaining non-selected applicants. Applications for places in the selection pool will be accepted until the end of the qualification period.
  • Selection offers will be made on the following basis and order of priority:
    • Position in the Triathlon Ireland National Series rankings 2010;
    • Any remaining places will be offered to athletes based outside Ireland (selection to be decided by Triathlon Ireland on the basis of athlete results submitted);
  • Athletes will have one week from the date of the offer letter to take up their place, by completing any documentation and paying required fees.
